The P MB PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION SERVICES Department of the P OPERATIONS PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)

JOB FUNCTION:
Supervises and directs staff in support of Energy Deliverys major capital and O&M projects and programs to optimize the reliability, efficiency, and interconnection of the transmission and distribution system. Responsible for financial administration (including Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance) and major project and program execution support of the Energy Delivery process area. Provide support for Energy Delivery in supporting Rate Case or Performance Based Rate making dockets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises and directs project support staff in T&D Services to provide financial administration including Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance. Establish and execute controls to be in compliance with Company policies and procedures. This includes review for proper settlement of Energy Delivery major project and program orders and Power UE follow up in support of T&D Operations Supervisors.
  • Supervises and directs project support staff in T&D Services to provide Energy Delivery major project and program execution support. This includes equipping supervising project managers, sr. project managers, project/program managers, Division supervisors and superintendents, and construction project managers with initiating and managing large outside service contracts and invoices; monitoring and updating major project and program schedules and costs; and implementing major project and program controls.
  • Supervises and directs project support staff to provide and/or develop metrics (e.g. unit cost and other cost metrics to support measures of efficiencies) and reports for the Energy Delivery process area.
  • Provide support to Energy Delivery for Rate Case or Performance Base Ratemaking dockets.
  • Manages and administers all personnel matters of the group, including performance appraisals and interviews; recognition of employee achievements; and disciplinary actions.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of utility budgeting and forecasting processes (including detailed annual Operating Forecast and Capital Budgets; etc.) and Sarbanes-Oxley Act controls.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable (overhead and/or underground) transmission and distribution engineering standards and work practices and inspection and maintenance program development/implementation.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (i.e., spreadsheets, word processing, database management, SAP, UI Planner etc.)

  • Demonstrated leadership skills including effective written, oral and listening communication skills; conflict resolution skills; the willingness and ability to train.
  • Supports two-way communications to ensure a focused well informed workforce. Promotes teamwork and self-directed workforce to support company initiatives.
  • Troubleshooting skills to determine gaps in work processes or project controls.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to handle difficult or sensitive issues while using tact, courtesy, and discretion.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii drivers license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.

Experience Requirements

  • Extensive (7+) years of utility accounting and/or project/program management and project execution.
  • Several years (3-5) of related work experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Multiple years (3-5) of related experience in preparing capital or operating and maintenance budgets and managing expenses preferred.
