What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $34.39 - $53.50/based on experience and education. The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days, or unpaid days off, for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th, the Friday before Labor Day, and November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. If you receive an offer for this position, your annual pay will determine whether you are required to take additional furlough days. Details will be discussed during the offer process for selected candidate(s).

Location & Schedule

In this position you can expect to work on site at Denver International Airport (parking is provided)

  • Shifts consist of four (4) 10-hour days

  • The primary shift will be the Front Half Graveyard Shift. Shifts are yearlong commitments and are subject to change based on operational need.

    • Days Front Half: Sunday Wednesday 0500 -1530

    • Days Back Half: Wednesday Saturday 0500 -1530

    • Swings Front Half: Sunday Wednesday 1430 0100

    • Swings Back Half: Wednesday Saturday 1430 010

    • Graves Front Half: Sunday-Wednesday 1930-0600

    • Graves Back Half: Wednesday Saturday 1930-0600

  • Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to change. A pay differential of 7% to 12% may apply, depending on the shift assigned.

  • Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If staffing challenges occur, weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees will be required to work extended hours and/or alternative shifts (includes nights, weekends, and holidays)

  • Participates in mandatory snow removal duties

Denver International Airport is seeking a highly motivated Lead Plumber to guide skilled journey and master level plumbers in the operation, maintenance, construction, and/or repair of DEN facility plumbing systems. This role requires shift work as DEN is a 24/7/365 operation (includes nights, weekends and holidays). Shifts are subject to change.

Our ideal candidate has a Commercial Journey License issued by the State of Colorado. Specifically, as a Lead Plumber you will:

  • Perform lead work over plumbers and other staff engaged in the maintenance and repair work on all plumbing systems and fixtures in accordance with agency or department standards and code requirements

  • Respond to plumbing service or trouble calls, troubleshoots, and provides problem resolution

  • Diagnose, inspects, maintains, and repair various types of fire protection systems

  • Interpret as-built building blueprints and recommend system modifications for remodel projects in accordance with applicable regulations

  • Coordinate, maintain, test, and install devices for the prevention of backflow, back siphonage or cross connection

  • Maintain records and prepare daily activity reports, estimate materials, labor, and equipment costs

  • Guide and assist in the maintenance and repair work in a variety of skilled trades areas

  • Develop or modify work plans, methods, and procedures, determines work priorities, and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage

  • Provide work instruction and assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments

  • Assign and distribute work, review work for accuracy and completeness, and return assignments with recommendations for proper completion

  • Participate in snow removal duties

  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Basic Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, Teams)

  • Familiarity with work order procedures and systems

  • Excels in a team environment

  • Flexibility to shift based on business needs

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Master Plumber's License, a plus

  • Ability to obtain backflow certification within 6 months of hire


Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC

  • Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a journey level plumber

  • Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements

  • Licensures/Certification(s): Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

  • Requires a valid Journey Plumber's License issued by the State of Colorado at the time of application. Licensure in another state with reciprocity may be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado licensure at completion of probation.

  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International

Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to

maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment

physical/drug test may be required.

Snow / Emergency Duties : Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions

warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or

shifts.
