The Junior Estimator is responsible for assisting with the preparation of cost estimates and bid packages for residential, commercial, and/or industrial construction projects. This entry-level position supports the estimating team in reviewing project plans and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, obtaining vendor quotes, and assembling proposals in a timely and accurate manner.
Key ResponsibilitiesEstimate Preparation
Assist in the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates under supervision.
Perform basic quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications.
Organize and maintain historical cost data for future estimates.
Document Review
Read and interpret construction drawings, project manuals, and scope documents.
Identify discrepancies or scope gaps and report them to the Estimator or Project Manager.
Vendor/Subcontractor Coordination
Request and compile quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
Maintain up-to-date vendor/supplier contact lists.
Software & Data Entry
Input estimate details into estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Excel, or company-specific tools).
Assist in the setup and maintenance of digital estimate files.
Team Collaboration
Participate in pre-bid meetings and internal project reviews.
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other estimators to ensure alignment on pricing strategy and scope.

Required Skills & Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
0–2 years of experience in estimating, construction, or a related field.
Basic understanding of construction methods and materials.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; familiarity with estimating software is a plus.
Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
Ability to read construction plans and specifications (with guidance).
Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills.
Detail-oriented and eager to learn.
Internships or hands-on field experience in construction.
Exposure to electrical, mechanical, or general contracting projects.
Experience with tools such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or Procore.
Primarily office-based with occasional visits to job sites.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
May require lifting up to 15 pounds occasionally (documents, plans, etc.).
