We are currently seeking a Supervisor of Golf and Grounds Maintenance to join our teama key hands-on leadership role that supports the planning, execution, and oversight of outdoor maintenance operations across our golf course and recreational grounds. Your Role
The Supervisor of Golf & Grounds Maintenance will possess excellent communication skills, leadership and the ability to execute and direct the functions of the Golf & Grounds Maintenance Department. The incumbent is responsible for assisting with the planning and oversight of fertilizer and chemical applications, irrigation, budgeting, event setup and Occupational Health & Safety documents. The Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of Golf & Grounds maintenance personnel, as well as project management, scheduling, and employee interfacing. The Supervisor ensures departmental standards for employee conduct and task performance are achieved on a daily basis; ensures that the work is performed in accordance with RRC policy, the Golf Course & the Grounds Standard of Operations and OH&S standards. This position supervises and assists the team with golf course preparations and golf course redevelopment and construction.
Your Impact
Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and analyze the work of employees responsible for providing golf, grounds & sports fields services including maintenance, landscaping, event setup and irrigation.
Prepare work schedules for all golf, grounds and sports fields employees and ensure work is performed properly and in accordance with current OH&S standards and in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Participate in the preparation and coordination of Golf & Grounds annual budget; including submitting budget recommendations and monitoring department expenses. Helps exercise cost control measures to keep operating expenses in line with approved budgets.
Maintaining employee timesheets and any records in relation to other compensatory time.
In conjunction with the Manager, address disciplinary and/or performance concerns according to company policy. Address employee concerns by providing appropriate coaching, direction and resolution.
Responsible for recruitment and selection of new Golf & Grounds staff in accordance to the approved departmental budget.
Develop and maintain a safe culture within the department and ensure adherence to and awareness of all RRC Health and Safety policies, procedures and standards. Monitors all records to ensure they are valid and up to date for the inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies.
Help plan all fertilizer, pesticide and seed applications.
Responsible for the application and maintenance of the irrigation and spray equipment.
Monitor all RRC Grounds diligently to detect trouble spots and areas of special attention; ensure the highest standard of field and parking lot maintenance is upheld at all times; ensuring quality of playing surfaces, both natural turf and artificial; Golf Course, Stadium, Fields and RRC Grounds housekeeping.
Organize, plan and execute the work involved in the applications of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides; ensure the proper and safe application of chemicals are followed in accordance with Alberta Environment Regulations and maintain all required documentation and records of chemical use.
Supervise grounds operators in the maintenance of the golf course including the mowing of turf areas, golf course set-up, clippings management, bunker maintenance, cultivation, topdressing, application of control products, setting up fields for events, marking out athletic fields for sport play, mowing, planting, pruning, garbage and debris removal within RRC grounds and sports fields designated areas. Communicate findings to the Manager with suggested maintenance scheduling for all affected areas.
Supervise the conversion and protection of all RRC Athletic Fields during special events.
Monitor the conditions of playing surfaces under varying environmental conditions.
On a daily basis, identify turf grass areas in need of irrigation (automated or hand watering), sodding or repairing.
Monitor and maintain ponds and water features.
Assists as needed with the communication to Pro Shop personnel to provide information about course conditions, scheduled maintenance and any areas of concern.
Ensures that tournament yardages and other specifications are in place in a timely matter.
Prepare sports turf according to organizational standards set out to the department through rental agreements and contracts with potential user groups. (i.e. CFL & FC field specifications, etc.)
Assists in all events where sports field and parking lot requirements are needed. This may include both traffic and public controlled areas.
In the off-season, co-ordinate & assist in snow removal for RRC facilities including parking lots and field stadiums.
All other duties as assigned.
Your Accomplishments
Post-Secondary Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Turf Management or comparable related program is an asset
Three (3) years turf or landscaping experience is an asset
Two (2) year supervisory experience
One (1) season Automated irrigation system experience is an asset
Horticulture related experience is an asset
Valid Alberta Pesticide Applicators License or the ability to obtain within 12 months
Class (5) Valid Skid steer Certificate is an asset
Class seven (7) Rough Terrain Forklift Certificate is an asset
Chainsaw Certificate is an asset
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to get along easily with others and function as a high performing team member.
A working knowledge of the OHSA.
Must be able to follow direction and work independently
Possess effective supervisory and management skills.
Ability to think quickly and respond to complaints effectively.
A personal and professional commitment to excellence.

Working Conditions
This position requires a flexible schedule including statutory holidays, early morning, late night, and weekend work.
This position involves working under variable temperature conditions and noise levels, in indoor and outdoor settings.
The position requires use of hands, arms to operate grounds machinery/equipment and ability to stoop, bend, sit, and stand on a frequent basis.
This position may include heavy lifting of supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs.
This position involves periods of high mental and/or emotional stress.
