Job Description

As a Business Development Manager, you will lead our growing Business Development team of sales professionals while supporting lead generation activities that fuel team success. This role is heavily focused on team development and sales management (75%) with lead generation and business development support (25%). You'll be instrumental in building and developing a high-performing sales team while working alongside fractional executive leadership to scale our business development operations.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development (75% of role)

  • Lead, Manage, and hold Accountable (LMA): Following AIOA's EOS framework, you will Lead by casting vision and inspiring your team, Manage by ensuring proper execution of sales processes and activities, and hold Accountable by setting clear expectations and consistently measuring performance against established metrics.
  • Scorecard Development & Management: Collaborate with leadership to establish key performance metrics and scorecards for each team member. Track, review, and hold team members accountable to their weekly and monthly numbers while providing coaching and support to help them succeed.
  • Team Advocacy & Support: Serve as the primary advocate for your team members, fighting for their success, removing obstacles, and ensuring they have the resources and support needed to excel. Champion their achievements and defend their interests while maintaining high performance standards.
  • Performance Management: Conduct regular one-on-ones, quarterly performance reviews, and implement improvement plans when needed. Balance strong accountability with mentorship and development, ensuring team members understand both expectations and consequences.
  • Training & Development: Lead comprehensive onboarding programs for new sales team members and provide ongoing coaching, training, and skill development to accelerate team success and retention.
  • Sales Process Implementation: Execute and refine established sales processes, methodologies, and best practices to improve team efficiency and conversion rates across the sales funnel.
  • Pipeline Oversight: Monitor team pipeline health, forecast accuracy, and deal progression. Provide tactical guidance on opportunities while holding team members accountable for consistent pipeline activity and progression.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Marketing, Operations, and Leadership teams to ensure seamless lead handoff, client transition, and continuous improvement of the sales-to-delivery process.
  • Leverage Technology/AI: Leverage technology and AI to help drive efficiency and support the business development team lead generation.

Lead Generation & Business Development Support (25% of role)

  • Lead Generation: Focus on generating qualified leads through networking, referral relationship building, and market outreach.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain relationships with key strategic partners, referral sources, and networking contacts to generate leads for the sales team.

Market Representation: Represent AIOA at industry events, networking functions, and community organizations to build brand awareness and generate qualified prospects.

Requirements

Professional Experience/Qualifications

Required:

  • 7+ years of B2B sales experience, with at least 3 years in sales management or team leadership roles
  • Proven track record of building and leading high-performing sales teams with strong accountability systems
  • Experience implementing and managing performance scorecards and metrics-driven accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to balance tough accountability with team advocacy and support
  • Experience in professional services, accounting, or financial services industries preferred
  • Strong understanding of small business and/or nonprofit sectors
  • Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on management with lead generation and business development activities
  • Strong accountability mindset with the ability to set clear expectations and consistently measure performance
  • Excellent coaching and mentoring abilities with a track record of developing talent
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret sales data and performance metrics
  • Proven track record of successful lead generation and business development activities
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining team focus

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and financial services
  • Experience with CRM systems (HubSpot preferred) and sales automation tools
  • Background in scaling sales operations in growing companies
  • Understanding of consultative selling methodologies
  • Familiarity with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) principles

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $105,000 - $120,000 plus commission
  • Team performance bonus up to 20% of salary; paid quarterly
