The Building Official position offers a unique opportunity for a professional to work remotely. The incumbent in this position will see a diversity of projects including multi-family residential, mixed-use buildings, as well as, single-family residential projects. Knowledge of principles and practices of plan checking and plan review processes.
Understanding of building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life safety, energy, housing, zoning, and related codes.
Technologically savvy; as a technology focused company, the building official needs to be able to navigate our in-house software and learn additional software as needed.
Understanding of modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications. English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation knowledge is expected.
Read and interpret building plans, specifications, and codes.
Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, procedures, and other written materials.
Establish and maintain a variety of manual and computerized files, record-keeping, and project management systems.
Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.
Possession of related valid International Code Council (ICC) Certificates, specifically the CBO certificate. MCP preferred.
Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in building trades, construction management, community development, engineering, architecture, or a related field preferred.
Seven (7) years of minimum combined experience in plan checking and inspection of building codes with a public or private agency.
Responsibilities:
Manages established plan review and inspection processes including recommending and bringing changes when needed, in conference with leadership.
Manages the plan review and inspection team, developing individual relationships with the plan reviewers and inspectors, addressing their concerns, supervising them, training them and leading them
Builds cohesion and unity in the team through excellent leadership
Does quality control of plan reviews performed by plan reviewers, sending out high quality plans.
Meets and confers with department staff regarding interpretations of the building code, processing of complex projects, and the assignment and monitoring of work.
Resolves interpretation issues relating to the adopted building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical codes; enforces Federal, State, and local regulations pertaining to construction.
Maintains files, databases, and records related to building activities and projects; prepares a variety of written reports, memoranda, and correspondence.
Performance of the work requires the use of independence, initiative, and discretion within established guidelines.
Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of building, plan review, and permitting codes and regulations.
Compensation and Benefits:
$90,000.00 - $ 120,000 Yearly Salary depending upon qualification & experience
