The Engineering Services Department consists of three separate sections Project Management/Project Delivery, Land Development , and Transportation, with a total of twenty-four (24) staff members that span various roles.

THE POSITION
Are you ready to take your engineering career to the next level? We are currently seeking a dynamic individual to join our team to fill a key management and high-level technical role. There is currently one vacancy, and depending on qualifications, the top candidate will be chosen to fill a Senior role.
The Project Management/Project Delivery Team consists of three assistant engineers, two associate engineers and one principal engineer. Reporting directly to the Principal Engineer, the Senior Engineer position offers the chance to make a significant impact and operate with a high degree of autonomy.
The Senior Civil Engineer is responsible for bringing a high level of technical expertise to assist our Associate and Assistant Engineers through complex capital projects. The ideal candidate for this role will embody a facilitation mindset and will also be well versed in a broad range of engineering skill sets related to Project Delivery, including but not limited to complex project and contract management, sound cost estimating strategies, creating economics of scale, understanding constructability, and strategic planning.
Capital Management
The Capital Management Section is responsible for the preparation and implementation of the Citys Major Projects Program (MPP). This includes the design, construction, and installation of various public improvements throughout the City. Typical projects include street improvements, storm drain construction, railroad crossing improvements, and facility construction or upgrades. The Capital Management section also manages funding programs related to the implementation of the MPP and other operational functions including Measure I 2010-2040, State Gas Tax and Road Maintenance and Repair Funding, along with State and Federal grants.

As part of the Engineering Services team, youll have the opportunity to be a part of rewarding projects that make a visible impact in our community. Some of the exciting projects currently underway at the City of Rancho Cucamonga include:
- Pavement Management Program Implementation - A city-wide assessment of pavement condition to be able to best plan for future CIP projects and improve our average Pavement Condition Index (PCI).
- Active Transportation Plan and Local Roadway Safety Plan Implementation - Two separate planning efforts to set the foundation for prioritizing future infrastructure projects for both the Citys CIP and future grant applications.
- City Center Boulevards Project - Oversee design and construction for this transformative project on Haven Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. This project aims to create a City Center adjacent to the City's Civic Center and planned developments along two of the City's primary corridors. The project will remove on vehicular lane to construct a frontage road with complete street elements including enhanced landscaping, street furniture, on-street parking, bicycle facilities, and transit stops.
- Phase 2 Heritage Park Bridge Replacement - The reconstruction of two bridges currently servicing pedestrians, equestrians.
- Etiwanda Grade Separation Proje ct - A $125 Million investment to construct a new grade separated overcrossing along Etiwanda Avenue over the railroad tracks. Tasks will include identifying funding, closing out the right of way process, and overseeing construction.
- Etiwanda Creek Bridges Project - Lead design, environmental clearance and permitting, and construction for one new culvert on Whittram Avenue and a widened culvert on Arrow Avenue.
- General Plan Implementation - Reimagining of street cross-sections along our two largest corridors, and ensuring our vision is communicated to developers to achieve desired quality of life improvements for our community.

- Working with other Departments, neighboring jurisdictions, and regional agencies to coordinate projects and grant applications to ensure the goals of the City are being met.

Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and four years of progressively responsible professional experience, including experience in directing the work of others involved in engineering project activities or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Examples of Acceptable Substitutions: Minimum Qualifications: A bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, plus four (4) years of progressively responsible professional-level experience in Civil Engineering , including experience in directing the work of others involved in engineering project activities.
Substitution: A total of eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional-level experience in Civil Engineering, including experience in directing the work of others involved in engineering project activities may substituted for the bachelors degree requirement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of engineering principles, methods and practices; project development, design and construction; techniques for reviewing designs, plans, specifications, estimates, reports and recommendations; current trends and developments, literature, and sources of information regarding municipal engineering; related laws, ordinances, rules and regulations. Ability to plan and coordinate professional and sub-professional engineering work; interpret and apply related laws, ordinances, rules, regulations and policies; prepare and present reports; perform complex professional engineering work; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers. Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California drivers license and a satisfactory driving record.
