Public Works Automotive Services is hiring a Mechanic Technician II to perform mechanical repairs and maintenance of waste collection vehicles and machinery.

This position is an EVENING SHIFT working the following weekly schedule: Monday, 6:30 am - 5:00 pm, Tuesday - Thursday, 3:00 pm - 1:30 am.

The Mechanic Technician II duties include:

Preventive maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, battery checks, safety checks and transmission and differential service.

Perform repairs such as, but not limited to, replacing lights, belts, hoses, tires, brakes, water pumps, starters, alternators, radiators, air compressors, air tanks, hydraulic hoses and lines, hydraulic cylinders and pumps, brake air compressors.

Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical systems and electric over hydraulic controls.

Repair diesel engines

Hydraulic system repairs

Perform repairs of S-cam brake systems

Perform various repairs and maintenance to the engine, transmission, differential and heating/air conditioning system.

Perform other heavy-duty vehicle/equipment related maintenance/repairs.

Utilize computerized fleet maintenance and work order programs.

The ability to perform Virginia state inspections is preferred but not required.

May be required to operate a forklift.

This position is designated ALPHA I and the chosen individual may be required to work in emergency events and inclement weather.

CDL Hiring Bonus: Newly hired employees with a valid Class A or B CDL will be eligible for a $2,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:

$500 with first paycheck

$500 first pay period following six-month interim evaluation (with "meets expectation" performance rating)

$1,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with "meets expectation" performance rating)

Please Note: This position requires the incumbent obtain a valid 609 Refrigerant Recovery Certification within the first year of employment (the probationary period). The incumbent is also required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License and Virginia State Inspectors License within the first year of employment (the probationary period).
