A Day in the Life of a Preconstruction Estimator:

As a Construction Estimator at First Onsite, you will be an integral part of our preconstruction department, estimating and buying out various trades for construction projects. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful execution of projects and contributing to the restoration of properties.

Your day involves overall management of the scope and pricing of assigned trades. Collaborating closely with the Preconstruction Manager, you contribute to developing, understanding, and effectively bidding on the scope of work. Your analytical skills come into play as you meticulously analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare the company's bid/proposal.

Project site inspections become a vital part of your role, ensuring that plans, specifications, and subcontractor scopes of work are not only feasible but also resolving issues and recommending modifications as needed.

Collaborating closely with project architects and other professionals, obtaining multiple bids per trade, and tracking material and labor unit pricing to compile historical data are key components of your role. Clear communication is crucial as you prepare and present information to management, project teams, and clients concisely.

In addition to your primary responsibilities, you play a proactive role in identifying and notifying the Preconstruction Manager when there is a risk of a bid(s) not meeting the expected schedule. Supporting and assisting the Project Manager during the construction phase is also part of your commitment to project success.

Your role includes preparing reports, documentation, and other job-related administrative duties, showcasing your attention to detail and organizational skills. Furthermore, your adaptability shines through as you fill in as needed when additional responsibilities/tasks must be completed based on priority. Your multifaceted approach and dedication contribute significantly to the seamless execution of projects and the success of our team.
