Performs skilled electrical work in the repair, installation, and alteration of electrical equipment and wiring systems.
CURRENT VACANCY: One (1) full-time position (12 mos/yr, 8 hrs/day), with full benefits, at the Facilities Maintenance department. New employees in this classification are hired at the fourth step of the salary schedule.
Examples of Duties

-Repairs, installs, services, and maintains electrical systems, including interior and exterior conduit, light and power circuits, motors, transformers, generators, control equipment, switchers, switchboards, fire alarms, heating and air conditioning controls, clocks, intercommunications, and public address systems.
-Installs and maintains electrical elements of shop machinery and power tools.
-Replaces switches, receptacles, fuses, fluorescent tubes, light bulbs, and small fixtures.-Estimates costs of materials and supplies.
-Requisitions electrical supplies and materials.
-Performs related work as required.
Employment Standards
CLASS QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
-Materials, tools, equipment, and methods of the electrical trade.
-Work hazards and safe work practices.
-Codes, ordinances, and regulations pertinent to the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment and wiring systems.
Ability to:
-Install, repair, and maintain electrical equipment and wiring systems.
-Use and care for electrical tools and diagnostic equipment.
-Read, interpret, and work from plans, specifications, and blueprints.
-Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
-Be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Five years of experience in electrical systems installation, maintenance, and repair work with at least one year at the journey level.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license. Also, the ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability.

Prior to employment, a candidate must submit proof of freedom from tuberculosis. Also required after an offer of employment are a pre-employment physical exam (district-paid) and fingerprint clearance with the Department of Justice.
