Remote Overhead Crane Operator Job Description We are seeking a dedicated laborer to work alongside operators in a dynamic steel manufacturing environment. As a Remote Overhead Crane Operator, you will utilize an overhead crane to move and load various steel products, including sheets, bars, rods, and plates. You will start in one bay and receive comprehensive training across all three bays. Quality checks using micrometers, calipers, and tape measures are part of the role. Forklift experience is preferred but not mandatory. Additional responsibilities include assisting machine operators and performing general shop duties. Responsibilities Operate overhead crane to move and load steel sheets, bars, rods, and plates. Perform quality checks using micrometers, calipers, and tape measures. Assist machine operators as needed. Perform general shop duties and maintain productivity when not operating the crane. Essential Skills Experience with overhead crane operation (single or double hoist). Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, and tape measures. Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform machine operating tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Forklift experience is preferred. Comfortable being trained in multiple areas of work. Work Environment The work takes place in a smaller facility with three main bays where operators produce a range of steel products, from small metal shims to large steel beams and sheets. Candidates must be comfortable working independently, multitasking, and staying productive, even when there is no immediate product to move. The position is based in the Chicago Heights location, which is part of a larger network of steel distribution across the United States, Mexico, and other foreign destinations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Steger, Illinois. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
