Our client is a well-established, owner-managed electrical contracting company headquartered in Bronx, NY, servicing all boroughs and surrounding areas of New York City for over 70 years. Our client has built a reputation for public works projects with complex outdoor installations and general industrial and commercial electrical. We are offering an opportunity for an Estimator in Electrical Construction who is looking to further develop their career in a management role of a dynamic company involved in many of NYC's iconic landmark projects and expand their skillset working on projects in unusual environments. Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 years of field experience in the electrical contracting industry. The candidate must be able to handle complex electrical construction cost estimates, and be involved in the planning, development, negotiation, and contract execution from evaluating project plans and specifications, evaluating costs and material time requirements, creating professional bid documents, and other relevant project documents. The position will involve estimating both for on going projects and for new opportunities. The position will entail: End-to-end bidding and ability to identify labor, material, and time requirements by studying blueprints, specifications, quotes, photos, walk through notes, RFI and other related documents and independently resolve discrepancies by collecting and analysing information. Specifically: Determining the total cost of materials, equipment, utilities, and labor for construction projects. Researching construction documents and analysing specifications. Preparing estimates for planning, organizing, and scheduling project work. Managing pre-qualification and pre-bid submissions. Ability to develop conceptual budgets and design/build estimates. Preparing estimates to meet project goals, such as setting work hours, sequencing tasks, obtaining materials, and securing the best deals with vendors and subcontractors. Ensuring that relevant documents and budgets are submitted before a bid deadline. Ensure RFQs and RFIs are created, sent out and followed up. Handle change orders Keeping track of the latest estimating technology and industry-related techniques. Collaborating with other teams, conducting site visits, and providing other services, like bid deliveries, when required. All other duties as assigned. Personal characteristics of the ideal candidate: Six years of field experience with and experience as an estimator in the electrical construction field Knowledge of NYC and NEC codes; Means and methods Attending estimating/sales meetings, and project meetings to discuss bid status and present/solve problems. Advanced skills in MS Office and general computer literacy. Experience with Industry estimating software a plus. Must be accurate, possess attention to detail and be proactive in pointing out potential issues Excellent communication (verbal and written) and relationship building skills. Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills and an ability to prioritize and effectively manage time Anticipates potential problems; is proactive and takes action to avoid such issues arising. Develops and maintains a positive relationship with customers, vendors & contractors Exceptional time management, multitasking, and interpersonal skills. Ensures that the Company's best interests are represented, including profitability and cost control.
