Under general supervision of Road & Bridge Manager, Superintendent is responsible for coordinating the construction and maintenance of assigned county roads, managing and organizing various work schedules of subordinates, budget planning and administration. Plan and oversee all construction projects and equipment maintenance associated with or assigned to the Public Works Department. Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Countys policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Directs workers engaged in maintaining and constructing roads and bridges; oversees the operation and maintenance of equipment and facilities; inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, and standards; maintains work records and prepares various activity reports
- Oversees work schedules, checks progress of work, monitors daily activities, ensures all work is documented and tracked utilizing work order management software; Performs as lead estimator and project planning resource to senior staff
- Maintain clear and open lines of communication with internal stakeholders, external partners, and team members. Keep the Road & Bridge Manager briefed at all times of field staff, work assignments, issues, or concerns.
- Represents the precinct in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with county staff, public officials, contractors, engineers, other agencies and the general public
- Investigates, documents, and resolves citizens requests and concerns
- Directs and supervises staff, encompassing all administrative functions, including interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, assigning work, reviewing performance, administering discipline, and addressing employee related issues
- Reviews and assists in the preparation and administration of department budget
- Ensures employees are following established safety policies, regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Perform any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned.

Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
- Minumum of five (5) years of road and bridge maintenance and construction experience
- Minimum of f ive (5) years' of supervisory experience in road and bridge maintenance and construction and/or equivalent field
Licensure:
- Must attain a Class B (CDL) commercial driver's license with Tanker Endorsement within 180 days of hire; or a class "A" (CDL) commercial driver's license and special endorsements
- Must have thorough knowledge of techniques, materials, and equipment necessary for proper road construction and maintenance
- Must have basic knowledge of bridge construction and maintenance
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills; Ability to communicate with lead staff
- Ability to operate road maintenance and construction equipment
- Proficient ability to multi-task and effectively lead teams to execute a range of precinct objectives and timely completion of projects
- Proficient in construction and project management with the ability to identify obstacles in the construction progress and resolve them

Reporting Relationships
- Reports To Position: Road & Bridge Manager
- Supervises Positions: Camp Supervisor
- Work is on active construction sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; speeding traffic; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and combustible materials. Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures. Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g., hard hats, respirator masks, gloves, etc.).
- Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted, 100 pounds with assistance rarely; carrying tools, materials, and equipment over rough terrain; climbing, reaching and bending. Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, drive, hear, bend, stoop, twist, and balance; need the ability to occasionally kneel and crawl; need the ability to grasp manual controls and the ability to use foot controls and operate gas, diesel, and electrically powered equipment.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
