Title: Purchasing Manager
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Position: Full-time
Location: Odessa corporate office
Schedule: Onsite 8a-5p M-F
Travel: Up to 30%
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing and directing all activities of the purchasing department to ensure the efficient, timely, and cost-effective procurement of materials, spare parts, and non-production items in support of ongoing operations. This role plays a critical function in maintaining support to active construction sites while upholding BAUERs HSEQ standards.
The Purchasing Manager will lead strategic purchasing initiatives and manage the development and negotiation of framework agreements with key suppliers to secure reliable supply chains and favorable pricing. This role requires strong coordination with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure alignment between procurement strategy and operational needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Recruits, manages, and develops Purchasing staff.
- Oversees the daily workflow and scheduling within the department.
- Conducts timely and constructive performance evaluations.
Key Responsibilities:
Requisition Handling & Administration
- Collaborate with departments and leadership to identify procurement needs, product specifications, and acceptable alternatives.
- Review and validate incoming requisition requests, ensuring accuracy in part numbers, descriptions, lead times, and supplier data.
- Source and propose alternative materials or suppliers when required.
- Issue purchase orders in accordance with internal authorization procedures.
- Manage communications with suppliers including order confirmations, lead time tracking, and delivery follow-ups.
- Maintain close coordination with the warehouse, repair shop, construction sites, controlling department, and senior management.
- Draft, implement, and enforce procurement policies, procedures, and contract management protocols.
- Resolve vendor issues or disputes in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain comprehensive purchasing records and systems.
Market & Supplier Management
- Research and evaluate new suppliers and alternative sourcing opportunities.
- Monitor market trends that may affect material availability or pricing.
- Negotiate pricing structures, volume discounts, and favorable terms to support cost savings and long-term supply stability.
- Lead the negotiation and management of strategic framework agreements with key suppliers.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Software - SAP experience is a MUST, and experience with RIB Candy is a big plus!
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated negotiation expertise.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Highly organized with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to effectively train others.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in related field required.
- At least three years of experience in related field required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine needs.
- May require travel up to 30%.
