Job Description:
Facilities Development and Management, Facilities Management, seeks a Mechanical Engineer Senior to perform professional engineering duties associated with the support of facilities management staff. Provides guidance and expertise in mechanical engineering to troubleshoot and improve the operation of complex mechanical and ventilation equipment and systems, to evaluate operational strategies, and to investigate new technologies.

Essential Duties:
Assists Facilities Management staff in troubleshooting existing equipment and systems, and makes recommendations for modifications and upgrades.
Reviews operation of central plant and related thermal energy infrastructure, including chilled water and steam systems, and provides engineering support for operations staff.
Uses Modelling software to model district chilled water systems.
Uses load data to forecast thermal energy needs to assist with long-range capacity planning and capital projects.
Manages engineering studies performed by outside consultants.
Identifies energy savings opportunities and promotes ASUs Sustainability and Carbon Neutrality initiatives.
Manages engineering projects directly or as a mentor.
Reviews drawings to ensure proper engineering techniques and required specifications are used.
Assists with the preparation of construction documents outlining cost estimates, construction status, and recommended construction phasing that ensure compliance with standards.
Seeks approaches to meet or exceed established project goals and objectives.
Plans and designs or manages the design of mechanical systems components, or equipment.
Uses graphic instructions including blueprints, maps, layouts and other visual aids to determine innovative solutions to problems
Read blueprints, construction plans and CAD documents.
Provides design concepts and oversees design by consulting Architects and/or Engineers and recommends design modifications or alterations as required.
Reviews specifications and design guidelines.
Reviews and approves or rejects design guideline variance requests.
Researches and recommends new or innovative products or processes.
Formulates significant information strategies and implements in coordination with outside agencies.
Participates in Requests for Proposals, proposal evaluations, consultant interviews and selection, and pre-bid and pre-construction conferences.
Provides customer service to both internal and external customers.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE

Monday - Friday, 7:00 am 4:00 pm

Salary Range
$90,000 $110,000 annually. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.

Desired Qualifications:
Experience with large district utility systems
Experience in supporting operations and maintenance functions for a large university, or similar setting.
Knowledge of principals, practices, laws, ordinances and terminology related to project construction and design.
Knowledge of applicable building codes including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, life safety and accessibility codes and laws.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, engineers, contractors, co-workers, staff, representatives of other cities and the general public.
CEM certification
LEED, APPA EFP certification
ASHRAE membership

Working Environment:
Activities are performed in environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
Outdoors in uncontrolled environment subject to excessive heat or cold, wind, weather, etc.
Standing for varying lengths of time and walking moderate distances to perform work.
Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
Will be expected to participate in emergency events including evacuations, medical emergencies, and utility interruptions.
May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, garments, face coverings, hardhat, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator).
Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use.
Drives university vehicles.
Clearly communicate to perform essential functions of the job.
