ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance on lift stations, wastewater reclamation facility, and biosolids pelletizer components and equipment
Disassembles, installs, and performs mechanical repairs
Participates in the installation:
and repair of various size gravity and force main pipelines
of a wide variety of pipeline fittings (megalug, flanged, PVC, ductile iron) and pipeline repair components such as pipe restraints
Maintains air release valves by following standard operating procedure (SOP)
Demonstrates working knowledge and understanding of Wastewater Collection System maps: identify lift stations, force mains, valves, air releases
Demonstrates proficiency in Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to include: entering work order data, detailed notes, assets research, and work order close out
Sets up mobile generators and bypass pumping equipment
Possesses general knowledge and understanding of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) operations (identify alarms, navigate screens, and manipulate operations)
Installs chemical feed lines, sample pumps, disinfection equipment, pneumatic lines and associated components, etc.
Repairs, rebuilds, and services wastewater treatment plant pumps, gear drives, and other related equipment
Implements Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) procedures following the departments SOP
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees and the general public
Performs after hours stand-by duties as required

EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and one (1) year in a Mechanical related field or position
Class "B" CDL with Tanker endorsement (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire
For continued employment, the following training must be completed:

pipe materials & fittings (i.e., Ductile Iron, VCP, PVC, HDPE, Orangeburg and Concrete)
types of valves associated with wastewater operations (i.e., Gate, Plug, Ball, Butterfly, Check)
operation of construction equipment (i.e., Skidsteer, backhoe, mini excavator, by-pass pumps, truck-mounted crane)

Ability to demonstrate learned competency in each of the following:

Perform line repair (up to 30" diameter) under supervision of Utility Mechanic (UM) II or UM Senior

Set up mobile generators under supervision of UM II or UM Senior (3-phase plug and play)
Maintain air release valves under supervision of UM II or UM Senior
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment; duties include greasing, changing oil, changing filters, maintaining proper lubrication levels, cleaning, and painting
Perform minor troubleshooting of mechanical equipment
Complete a minimum of 80 hours annual apprenticeship in the wastewater reclamation facility (WWRF) or Lift Station Program Full 8 hour days
The employee and supervisor will establish a tentative annual apprenticeship calendar to include dates to reach the minimum 80 hour requirement
Extra hours may be required based on the supervisor's observation of apprentice's ability to understand new information, proficiency, and feedback
Annually, complete a minimum of 40 hours of cross-training at the WWRF or Lift Stations
The employee and supervisor will establish a tentative annual calendar to include dates to reach the minimum 40 hour requirement
Extra hours may be required based on the supervisor's observation of employee's ability to understand new information, proficiency, and feedback
Work in adverse weather conditions as well as emergency situations including holidays and weekends

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Environment: 10% inside a climate controlled building; 90% outside which includes driving.
Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require: sitting approximately two (2) hours per day, standing approximately four (4) hours per day, and walking approximately two (2) hours per day. The job also requires frequent: bending/stooping, grasping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling and occasional fine manipulations, working at heights, working in confined space, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 60 pounds, and on rare occasions lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Ability to detect proper equipment operation, detect alarms, and understand what others are saying in normal conversation and on the telephone. Speaking: Ability to communicate orally with others and speak effectively on the telephone. Seeing: Ability to see and read computer monitor screens, operate a vehicle and equipment, and read normal print.
Driving Requirements: Frequent driving and possession of a valid Florida Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement.
Technology: The work requires ability to operate telephones, smart phones, tablets, photocopiers, printers, desktop and/or laptop computers, calculators and all associated software.
Other: Ability to operate dump trucks, crane truck, bobcat excavators, forklift, aerial lift, and backhoes.
Tools: Proficiency with hand tools, shovels, crescent and pipe wrenches, ratchets, hammers, electric and gas saws, tubing cutters, drills, and power gate valve turner.
