Colorado Barricade's core services include traffic control planning and services, pavement marking, permanent sign, and related merchandise and equipment rental and sales. Customers include highway construction companies, Departments of Transportation, municipalities, and utilities.
Position Overview
The Foreperson is the on-site supervisor at each job site. The Foreperson is expected to utilize his/her independent judgment to make decisions in the best interest of Colorado Barricade, the customer, and the employees. The Foreperson independently assigns, responsibly directs and otherwise supervises employees on-site. The Foreperson is responsible for independent troubleshooting issues that occur on the job site. The Foreperson is responsible for ensuring the completion of the job in a safe and efficient manner to company standards while maintaining and managing contact with the customer. This is a DOT-related position and is subject to all applicable State and Federal laws.
Responsibilities
- Understanding of:
o Customer needs and ability to provide expertise on job set-up design. Customer Experience is the second most important aspect of this role second only to Safety.
o Jurisdiction's specifications and contacts
o Layout
o Plans including reading and comprehending job site blueprints.
o Types of materials and how to install each type.
o Verification of bid items from the field and understanding of how to measure them.
- Assign, Direct, Supervise, and oversee employees
o Assign employees to a range of duties on the job site based on the independent judgment of skills and abilities.
o Doing onsite checks, and actual jobs when workload is more than crew is capable of safely completing.
o Guarantee all safety precautions and quality standards are met
o Independently delegate additional responsibilities to crew members
o Ensure necessary equipment is operated safely and correctly by crew members
o Complete critical behavior observations on crew members daily
o Train and cross-train employees on equipment
- Report on progress to necessary personnel (i.e., Operations Manager., Superintendent, etc.)
- Responsible for daily field reporting of billing/payroll/equipment
- Troubleshoot issues that arise in the field, including but not limited to Equipment/Weather/Material/Personnel
- Make decisions in the field independently
- Responsibly direct operations on the job site
- Responsible for mitigating downtime/stem time/rework
o Verifying all necessary job materials/equipment are available at the job site
- Evaluate and review the performance of employees on the crew
- Recommending corrective action or commendation for subordinates
- Discipline/removal of employees in cases of serious misconduct
- All other duties as assigned
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
- Work is performed outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions / varying temperatures, e.g., exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, dry, and/or windy conditions.
- General Lift/Carry Expectations: Must be able to up to 35 lbs. regularly. Constant lifting/carrying of material used to complete the job.
- Standing: Constant standing throughout the shift. The position may require standing for periods greater than two hours at a time, for a total of greater than eight hours.
- Walking: Constant walking throughout the shift to complete the worksite project.
- Sitting: Occasional sitting for brief periods in vehicles when moving from one location to another.
- Reaching: Constant reaching to load and unloading material and equipment. Included constant overhead reaching.
- Stooping/Bending/Kneeling: Constant stooping/bending/kneeling when putting down and picking up material and equipment.
- Twisting: Frequent twisting of the body from side to side.
- Grasping: Constant grasping handles, brooms, shovels, roller knaps.
- Pushing/Pulling: Frequent pushing and pulling of various work equipment
- The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate/loud.
Travel
- Daily travel to and from worksite, some overnight travel may be necessary.
Qualifications
- Must be knowledgeable in traffic control, including setting up and taking down.
- Must be able to read and understand an MHT on paper and digitally.
- Minimum 3 years Traffic Control experience in a leadership role
Requirements
- Driver's License and clean MVR Must maintain a valid driver's license during employment.
- Able to hold/obtain DOT medical card.
- Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
- Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check
- TCS Certification - Obtain and keep a TCS certificate.
- Flagger Certification - Obtain and keep a Flagger certificate.
- Forklift Certification - Certified to operate Forklift.
