JOB SUMMARY

Performs advanced architectural work. Work involves coordinating the planning, design, and

execution of construction and architectural projects. Works under minimal supervision with

considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

A. Directs, plans, and coordinates work projects; oversees and conducts inspections of facilities

for needed improvements; oversees and conducts inspections and evaluates data for

compliance with laws and specifications; and conducts special studies, reduces facts to specific

findings, and recommends solutions.

B. Collects technical data, analyzes findings, and recommends specific programs or projects;

oversees and designs and plans layout of new and renovation projects including preparing

drawings and specification documents; and prepares estimation of proposed construction costs

and construction time.

C. Oversees the maintenance and preparation of records and reports.

D. Reviews and coordinates activities of consultants, construction firms, and governmental

representatives; provides architectural consultation services; and monitors design and

construction of specific projects through completion.

  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education, Experience, and Training

  1. Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering from an architectural

education program accredited by the National Architectural Accreditation Board (N.A.A.B.)

from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for

Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education

(USDE).

Six years full-time, wage-earning architecture or architectural engineering experience in a

facilities management environment.

or

Master's degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering from an architectural education

program accredited by the National Architectural Accreditation Board (N.A.A.B.) from a

college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the CHEA or USDE.

Five years full-time, wage-earning architecture or architectural engineering experience in a

facilities management environment.

  1. Currently registered as an Architect by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners or, if

currently or previously registered as an Architect in another state, must obtain Texas Board

of Architectural Examiners Architect registration within one year from date of employment.

Must maintain valid license(s) for continued employment in position.

Selected applicants without required license(s) must sign a Credential Contingency

Agreement that will remain in effect only until the initially established expiration date. Failure

to comply with this contingency statement will result in separation from employment.

Credential Contingency Agreements will not be extended or renewed as a result of an

employee's separation from employment or acceptance of another position.

  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure as it is defined by state

law.

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Knowledge of architectural principles, techniques, and procedures.

  2. Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules, statutes, and codes pertaining to design and

construction of government facilities preferred.

  1. Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures,

rules, and regulations preferred.

  1. Skill in the application of architectural concepts.

  2. Skill in computer-aided drafting.

  3. Skill to direct, plan, and coordinate projects.

  4. Skill to review and apply policies, procedures, rules, regulations, schedules, guidelines, and

contract requirements.

  1. Skill to conduct inspections.

  2. Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the

public.

  1. Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.

  2. Skill in problem-solving techniques.

  3. Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports.

  4. Skill to plan work in order to meet established guidelines.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION

A. Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend

repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize,

lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor

equipment.

B. Conditions include working inside and outside, working around machines with moving parts and

moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone,

working protracted or irregular hours, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.

C. Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing only the essential functions include

computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, computer-aided drafting equipment,

plotters, printers, fax machine, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
