Automation Project Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to oversee the execution of industrial automation and robotic integration projects at our facility in Wyoming, Michigan. This role is responsible for managing complex, custom automation projects from concept through installation, ensuring they are completed on time, on budget, and meet all technical requirements.

As the primary point of contact for both internal teams and customers, you will lead cross-functional efforts involving mechanical design, controls engineering, fabrication, and assembly. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial automation and robotics, excellent communication skills, and a results-driven mindset. This position reports directly to the General Manager.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Automation, Project Management, or related field.
• PMP certification or formal project management training.
• Familiarity with ERP systems and financial tracking tools.
• Experience working in regulated or high-precision manufacturing environments (e.g., automotive, agriculture, military).

Key Responsibilities

• Manage full project lifecycle including planning, scheduling, budgeting, risk mitigation, and execution.
• Serve as the main customer liaison, building strong relationships and maintaining clear communication throughout the project.
• Coordinate internal teams across engineering, controls, machining, assembly, and purchasing to keep projects on track.
• Oversee design reviews, change management, and all phases of FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing).
• Track and manage project scope, schedule, and cost, including identification and handling of change orders.
• Lead and document project meetings, maintaining accurate records of action items, timelines, and decisions.
• Provide onsite support during installation and commissioning, ensuring systems perform to expectations.
• Travel to customer locations (up to 20-30%) as needed for reviews, installations, and support.

Qualifications

• 3-7 years of project management experience in automation, robotics, or systems integration.
• Strong understanding of industrial automation, including robotics (e.g., FANUC, ABB, YASKWAW), PLCs, HMIs, and motion control.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, technical environment.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical documents.
• Experience leading FAT/SAT processes and managing customer expectations.
• Proficient with project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent.
