The HVAC Technician II is responsible for independently performing installations, maintenance, and repairs on HVAC systems. This role requires full licensure and at least 3-5 years of hands-on experience. The position involves troubleshooting HVAC components, ensuring system efficiency, and adhering to all safety and compliance regulations. HOURS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm, May require emergency 24/7 on call response as needed ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions listed here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the job. Install heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems based on building blueprints and specifications. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical problems in HVAC systems. Perform routine and emergency maintenance on HVAC units and related equipment. Conduct HVAC performance tests, inspections, and system diagnostics. Replace parts as needed following manufacturer guidelines. Track and maintain inventory of HVAC tools and parts. Ensure compliance with industry codes and occupational health and safety standards. Provide professional customer service to internal clients, including maintenance recommendations and system usage guidelines. Accurately document time, parts used, and services performed for each work order. Drive Metrocare-assigned vehicle to job sites and maintain clean driving and vehicle maintenance records. Remain available for on-call and emergency response needs as required. Performs other duties as assigned. TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: System Knowledge: Understand refrigeration cycles and components, including metering devices, compressors, and refrigerant handling. Apply electrical knowledge: AC/DC circuits, Ohm's Law, voltage/current diagnostics using multimeters, and reading wiring diagrams. Diagnose and service air distribution systems, including economizers, humidifiers, exhaust fans, and ductless split systems. Proficient in troubleshooting and servicing split systems, packaged units, and heat pumps up to 5 tons. Mechanical Skills: Perform soldering, brazing, basic heat load/loss calculations. Interpret schematics, mechanical drawings, and work plans. Troubleshoot electrical motor controls, thermostats, and HVAC system automation. Track and maintain inventory of HVAC tools and parts. Ensure compliance with industry codes and occupational health and safety standards. Provide professional customer service to internal clients, including maintenance recommendations and system usage guidelines. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 3 to 5 years' experience of trade-related work Preferred: Associate degree in a related technical field Must have a valid Texas HVAC Class A, B, or Universal Contractor's License, required DRIVING REQUIRED: Yes TRAVEL: In county travel may be required: occasionally/daily. Overnight travel required: N/A MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic math skills required. Ability to work with reports and numbers. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. Ability to apply logical thinking to solve technical problems. Capable of calculating basic figures for HVAC performance and part replacement documentation. COMPUTER SKILLS: Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint). Ability to utilize Internet for resources. Ability to complete digital work orders and communicate via email/text applications. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state. If licensed in another state, must obtain a Texas Driver License within three (3) months of employment. Liability insurance is required if an employee will operate a personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business. Must be insurable by Center's liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business. Must have an acceptable driving record.
