Under general supervision of the plant engineer, constructs, inspects, maintains, and repairs mechanical and electrical equipment, machinery, building and physical structure of the plant. Working with print, diagrams, sketches, and from written or verbal instruction in accordance with established operating procedures, performs the following: Reads and works from prints, sketches, or verbal instructions, machine assemblies and installations. Makes measurements and calculations necessary for job, using various measuring tools of the trade. Uses all tools of the trade, such as welders, gas cutters, lathes, measuring and testing devises, pipe fitting tools, drill press, band saw, grinders, hand tools, etc, including forklift. Maintains, adjusts, services, and lubricates plant equipment, such as production machines, mobile equipment, pumps, valves, etc. Inspects and determines needed repairs. Maintains and makes repairs to plant buildings, facilities, utilities, and area systems, involving plumbing, carpentry, masonry, pipe fitting, etc. Uses proper rigging gear and procedures to move equipment. Make minor repairs and installations to electrical systems that are not in main distribution lines. Performs duties with minimum supervision. Directs and instructs mechanics of lower classification assigned to job. Makes inspection tours to ensure compliance with safety and fire prevention programs, OSHA, and EPA. Preforms welding and gas cutting as needed. Dismantles, cleans, repairs, or replaces, rebuilds, and reassembles units. Maintains parts inventory control as needed. Uses MAPCON. Notifies supervisor of any difficulty interfering with performance of job. Reports time and production as directed. Uses safe working practices and always reports hazardous conditions.
