QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Journeyman's Certification or equivalent
  • Experience in the maintenance and operation of electrical systems, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training that demonstrates desired knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Experience in the proper use and upkeep of specialized equipment
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona State Driver's License
  • Knowledge, skill and or experience in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) strategies or be willing to receive training in those strategies
  • Ability to obtain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of methods, standard and accepted industry practices and other related safety regulations of the trade, such as OSHA.
  • Knowledge of all types of trade materials/tools/equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand diagrams, schematics and blueprints.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to safely use job-related tools and operate all types of district vehicles.
  • Ability to understand and follow a work schedule and written directions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level.
  • Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position, is held in the highest of confidentiality.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies, including mandatory reporting procedures.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and install office, classroom, and building items to meet facility needs.
  • Remodel office and workspace to ensure safe and efficient utilization of space.
  • Repair various items, systems, and components associated with the trade.
  • Coordinate essential functions of new construction and carpentry needs with other trade personnel such as HVAC techs, building maintenance workers, plumbers, and others, as required.
  • Analyze building plans, blueprints, diagrams, or drawings to identify the location of new or existing components or structures and determine equipment, tools, and materials required for carpentry.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and shop area to ensure the availability and functioning of required tools and equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies to resolve immediate safety concerns related to job duties.
  • May work overtime day, night or weekends for emergency service calls (on an as-needed basis).
  • Operate hand and power tools as needed in the performance of duties.
  • Prepare and maintain records to document work and repairs as requested.
  • Transport work-related equipment and supplies to job site as required to complete tasks.
  • Drive district vehicles in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Order equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure availability of items as needed to properly maintain facilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms, sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend. The employee may lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing 50 pounds or more. The employee may ascend/descend ladders and walk and/or stand for extended periods. The employee will read correspondence and computer screens, and use the telephone.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is indoors and outdoors, with exposure to all weather conditions and temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with staff, students and public.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

The Carpenter reports to the Assistant Facilities Director. The Carpenter will interact cooperatively with all other staff positions. All elements of good human relations will be practiced.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

INITIAL WAGE PLACEMENT PLAN: Starting at $22.10 per hour

WORK YEAR: 12 Months/8 hours
