Must have the physical, developmental and mental ability to perform job tasks, work efforts, responsibilities and duties of the job illustrated below:
MAJOR FUNCTION
Skilled and specialized work in the maintenance and repair of buildings, electrical, mechanical and air conditioning equipment.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Makes repairs to specialized equipment, including air handling and refrigeration systems and electronic apparatus. Troubleshoots and repairs short circuits and broken wires. Installs or replaces electrical fixtures. Repairs and replaces electric motors and switches. Changes oil and cleans HVAC equipment, makes repairs to circuits and thermostats, makes repairs to air compressors and pneumatic devices. Performs plumbing work from prints to finished product. Installs flush tanks, sink bowls and commodes, repairs water and sewer lines. Repairs various equipment and appliances. Repairs door locks and frames. Performs carpenter repairs and woodworking duties. Repairs roofs and partitions. Operates power saws, lathes and related equipment, and all power tools.
Ability to use cutting torch and arc welder. Makes repairs to specialized mechanical equipment. Calibrates and adjusts equipment and tests devices. Performs water tests for cooling towers. Maintains hot water and boiler systems. Repairs pumps, replace bearings, and seals. Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices used in the building, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, H.V.A.C./Refrigeration, or mechanical crafts. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the specific trades. Ability to work from oral and written instructions, from simple diagrams and sketches. Skill in using a variety of standard hand tools, machines, power equipment and test equipment.
Must be able to read and interpret building prints and wiring schematics for the purpose of trouble shooting building and equipment problems. Ability to see, ambulate independently, drive, climb, bend, stoop, sit and stand. Ability to push, pull and/or lift up to forty five (45) pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and have a minimum of three (3) years experience in general trades work in one or more of the building trades.
Must possess or obtain a Universal Refrigeration Certification as required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Such certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment in this position. Failure to obtain certification may result in termination of employment.
Must have a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida driver's license at the time of employment. Must have home telephone as employee is subject to emergency call out and stand by. Must have transportation to work.
A comparable amount of training and related experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
SPECIAL PREFERENCE
Prefer applicants with Journeyman level knowledge and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
