Job Description
An independent oilfield services company is seeking a Sandblaster Operator to prepare downhole tools and components for bonding and coating through precision sandblasting techniques. The ideal candidate is a safety-conscious technician with hands-on experience in surface preparation and a strong understanding of manufacturing protocols. Working with minimal supervision, the new team member will contribute to high-quality production by reading blueprints, operating blasting equipment, and following ISO-compliant procedures while ensuring part traceability, safety, and operational accuracy.
Salary: $18-22/hr
Location: Houston, TX 77092
Type of Position: Temp-to-Hire
Hours: M-F 1st Shift (6 am-2:30 pm)
Responsibilities:
Operate the sandblaster/ blast booth, lifting devices and overhead crane according to guidelines.
Prepare metal parts by sandblasting areas on tools per print.
Apply bonding agent on tools where indicated per print.
Remove dirt, paint, grease, and other built-up material from surfaces.
Interpret engineering drawings, engineering specifications and written process procedures.
Interpret and follow posted production schedules.
Work with labor and materials traceability documentation and guidelines, such as ISO 9001.
Work with electronic labor reporting / job progress scanning.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements:
One-year certificate from college or technical school and/or minimum of three to five years related experience as outlined above with prior assembly experience as well as material handling preferred
Ability to work under close supervision. Ability to read and understand instructions as they pertain to machinery operation or departmental tasks
Should be familiar with OSHA regulations, and able to recognize and read Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS) and Hazardous Materials Information System (HMIS) labels
Must be able to read blueprints and tape measure
Knowledge in sandblasting
Attention to details
Ability to work under a minimum of supervision in a manufacturing environment
Basic to intermediate skills in MS Office products to include Word, Excel, ERP and MRP systems
Familiarity with computer networks and e-mail
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to write and/or complete routine reports
Proficient in math. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
