The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

This role involves strategic planning, stakeholder communication, and ensuring projects comply with all relevant codes, regulations, and standards.

  • Manage a project load of multiple Capital and Expense funded construction projects from project initiation through completion of design, construction, and final sign offs.
  • Manage effective communication with all NYC OCME stakeholders. Effectively understanding program needs and transitioning learned needs to project scoping/implementation
  • Provide thorough analysis of Building and Fire code compliance, establishing timelines, analyzing bids and invoices, coordination of consultants, negotiation of change orders, and final sign offs.
  • Monitor the work of consultant architects/engineers to ensure the projects are within contract compliance, timeliness, and budget.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and professional judgement to make decisions necessary to evaluate bids, move construction projects to finish line, meet schedules, and achieve client needs.
  • Perform site surveys for existing and new sites in terms of Zoning, Buildings, and Fire codes, HVAC, Place of Assembly and Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Prepare technical reports, architectural CAD drawings, and cost estimates.
  • Monitor conditions and compliance at City owned and leased sites.
  • Oversee the preparation of reviews of proposals or reports of a complex nature. Review such proposals and reports and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Present and defend proposals on major architectural projects to high-level agencies and city officials.
  • Attend all project management meetings, track in detail project progress and project records.
  • Signs and seal architectural and other official documents.

ADMINISTRATIVE ARCHITECT - 10004

Minimum Qualifications

A valid New York State Registration as an Architect is required. In addition, candidates must have six ( 6 ) years of full-time paid experience in architectural work, at least two (2) years of which shall have been as an administrative architect.

Preferred Skills

  • Extensive experience managing complex architectural and construction projects within municipal or governmental settings. - Strong knowledge of building, fire, zoning, ADA, and other regulatory codes. - Excellent communication, negotiation, and professional judgment skills. - Ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams and manage multiple projects efficiently. - Proficiency in technical report writing, CAD drawings, cost estimating, and contract preparation. - Knowledge of city agency processes and experience working with regulatory agencies (e.g., NYC DOB, FDNY, NYS DEC).
