Painter Department: Facilities Engineering Job Description: General Description: Under general supervision, paints, finishes and decorates items such as wood, metal and concrete surfaces of buildings and other structures, equipment, machinery, and furnishings. Essential Responsibilities: Prepares new and old surfaces for finishing by using sandpaper, burners, scrapers, brushes, sanding machines, dusters, washing compounds and finish removers. Putties, plasters or otherwise fill and repair cracks and holes. Replaces broken glass in sashes and doors. Removes putty or glazing compounds. Caulks window frames, doorframes, and similar units. Mixes paints and allied products to match colors. Applies undercoats and finish coats to furnishings, machinery, equipment and exterior and interior surfaces of buildings and other structures. Calculates thickness of insulation needed to minimize heat or cooling losses and gathers needed materials and equipment. Insulates chilled water pipes, steam pipes, pumps, and tanks. Paints signs and hangs wallpaper. Cleans brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other related equipment. General Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience: 0-3 years of experience required. 1 or more years of skilled painting experience strongly preferred. Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: None required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in finishing and painting and the safety precautions observed.
