Job Summary
Repairs and installs utility production and distribution systems, such as chillers, boilers, water/sewer/steam/chilled water distribution, and sub-systems.
Performs these tasks utilizing skills such as digging, cutting, drilling, painting, cleaning, and assembling.
Performs welding tasks related to utility distribution systems such as: pipe-fitting, pipe welding, and general welding activities.
Performs quality control inspections of contracted utility distribution work for compliance with IU and governmental regulations.
Participates in mandatory training sessions related to Utility Systems. Acts as mentor and conduct on-the-job training of personnel in the Utility Trainee program.
Responds to emergency situations immediately and works quickly to correct the problem(s).
Performs other utilities related work as needed.
Drives vehicle.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
5 years of verifiable related experience
Completion of the Distribution Maintenance tract of the Utility Trainee program
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire

Tools involved in digging, cutting, drilling, painting, cleaning, assembling at a skilled level
Personal Protective Equipment: Hard hat, safety glasses, steel toed boots, hearing protection, work gloves, respirator
Working knowledge of equipment, tools, techniques, skills, materials and methods of mechanical PM work
Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
Ability to read and follow blueprints and maintenance and operation manuals
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to perform basic computer operations and use email utility
Ability to work with wide variety of cultures and backgrounds
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
