- Manage construction layout projects from start to finish.
- Direct planning and development of project scope, procedures, and budget.
- Review contracts to determine parameters, schedules, and major tasks.
- Ensure contractual commitments are met and work is performed per client instructions.
- Review and approve major change orders and assess their adequacy.
- Coordinate client contact and maintain working relationships at all levels.
- Resolve problems and coordinate final project turnover to the client.
- Responsible for overall quality control of the project.
- Monitor fees and budgets, reporting problems to appropriate managers.
- Review and address health and safety concerns on assigned projects.
- Conduct field safety audits.
- Schedule jobs for field teams.
- Prepare cost estimates and proposals for construction layout and surveying.
- Coordinate surveying work with contractors, engineering, and design departments.
- Perform and coordinate office tasks such as plan review, computations, daily field work review, and final deliverable preparation.
- Check and approve time sheets and expense reports of survey crew personnel.
- Generate continuous workload through client relationships and new client development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience in construction layout, land surveying, and construction stakeout.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or Carlson software.
- Project management skills.
- Experience with Civil 3D, CAD, and topographic surveys.
- Proficiency with surveying equipment such as Total Station and Trimble Total Control.
- Quality assurance and quality control expertise.
- Experience with ALTA surveys.
- General knowledge of survey software.
- Bachelors Degree in surveying, related construction, engineering field, or equivalent with 4 years experience in a junior or similar role; a comparable combination of education and experience can be considered.
- At least 5 years of experience working with clients as the main point of contact for construction survey projects.
- Proficiency with software programs and equipment such as AutoCAD, Trimble Survey Equipment, and Leica Scanners.
- Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites, complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
- Experience in conducting construction staking and layouts for various projects.
- Interest and enthusiasm for the construction side of land surveying.
The individual will work directly with clients and the company's surveying team to ensure efficient project management. The role is based 100% in the office, located in Joliet, with occasional site visits. The office environment includes a personal desk and office, with collaboration with a small team of in-office and field surveyors. The role involves working closely with the Survey Division Manager and the Principle of Surveying, who is also a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS).
