The safety coordinator may be responsible for the safety efforts of one large project or several complex projects. Safety Coordinator will work under the supervision of a safety manager responsible for leading the company safety function and side by side with the project team to implement safety practices in the field. They will ensure DXI Construction's performance meet or exceed OSHA, State and Federal requirements. Additionally, this position plans, implements, and coordinates programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses, as well as motivating and educating employees. This position is essential to DXI Construction's goal to invest in our company and the community by building projects that are safe, efficient and community-enhancing, allowing for a safe and healthy workplace for our employees, clients, partners, owners, and the general public.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with directing safety and environmental hazard activities for the DMV region
- Ensure all work is compliant
- Assist in planning efforts to ensure that safety is properly planned into all operations with all levels of Management
- Provide each level of management the service and advice for proper administration of their assigned operations
- Formulate and administer approved changes to our Health and Safety Policy
- Directly involved in the investigation of any accidents/incidents, near miss will be reviewed and working procedures developed to mitigate risks
- Ensure all personnel are following PPE requirements
- Ensure all tasks are reviewed for safety hazards using JHA's
- Conducting routine safety inspections as directed by the Safety Manager
- Reporting inspection results to the Project Team and Safety Manager/Director
- Assisting with acquiring resources for corrective action when needed
- Conducting and following up with safety inspections to ensure closure of items identified as unsafe, defective, or non-compliant
- Facilitating training for employees on a variety of safety and environmental topics as needed
- Assisting in the development, implementation and enforcement of Company Safety Policies and Procedures
- Performs all other duties as assigned, verbally or in written form
Qualifications/Required Skills:
- Minimum 3+ years safety related experience in heavy construction or remediation/environmental
- Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) designation
- Construction Health and Safety Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA, MSHA and USACE requirements
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent grammar and writing skills
- Communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate employees and communicate objectives.
- Ability to research pertinent facts, data, and other information from internal and external sources
- Proficient use of computer and corresponding programs - Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Ability to implement behavioral-based safety techniques to improve/maintain safety performance
- OSHA 30hr for Construction Required.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certificate and current annual 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- OSHA 500 Authorized Outreach Trainer or willingness to obtain.
- Train The Trainer Certifications for Basic Rigging, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection & Trench Safety is a plus or a willingness to obtain
- The ability to work in varied outdoor conditions that will vary but will include physically walking over jobsites in different stages of construction. This may mean wet and dry conditions and hot and cold conditions during the day and night
Education: 4-year degree in safety, industrial hygiene or related field is a plus but not required
