Fitter/Fabricator** **Job Description** The fitter/fabricator position involves preparing, laying out, fitting, finishing, and repairing complex fabrications in accordance with work packages and product specifications. The role requires working under the guidance of the shop superintendent to meet production schedules. A key part of the evaluation process is cutting and fitting a circle from a plate, ensuring it meets the required specifications for welding. **Responsibilities** + Fabricate, assemble, and install structural components on ships and marine vessels. + Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications. + Perform welding and metalworking tasks using various processes such as MIG, TIG, and arc welding. + Utilize structure-building materials and tools effectively. + Conduct cutting, fitting, and installation work with precision. + Ensure quality workmanship and meet grading standards. + Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition. **Essential Skills** + High school diploma or equivalent. + Minimum of 5 years of experience as a fitter or in a similar metalworking role within or structure-building environment. + Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications. + Strong welding and metalworking skills, including various processes such as arc welding, MIG welding, and TIG welding. + Knowledge of shipbuilding principles and practices. + Ability to work independently and as part of a team. + Good communication and interpersonal skills. + Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and lift heavy objects. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Vocational training or certification in metalworking, welding, or ship fitting. + Experience in construction, structure repair, or structure building. + Familiarity with yard safety practices and procedures. **Work Environment** The work environment is a large, loud manufacturing setting with 1st and 2nd shift openings. Employees work four 10-hour days and have mandatory overtime on Fridays until production goals are met. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
