Assists with landfill maintenance and operation duties by operating heavy equipment such as a backhoe, dozer, compactor, scraper, front end loader and dump truck. Loads incoming refuse into the baler belt from the baler floor. Covers refuse disposal sites with dirt on a daily basis. Digs trenches for refuse disposal. Operates baler as needed. Loads completed bales onto truck and unloads as disposal areas. Maintains baler and baler facility. Perform basic maintenance and repair on a daily basis to ensure that it is in proper operating condition. Blades slopes to remove erosion damage. Maintains access roads. Inspects all equipment prior to use to ensure that it is in proper operating condition. Performs routine maintenance on equipment such as checking fluid levels, belts, hoses, etc. Assists in landfill office as needed.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED certificate.
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Possession of a Commercial Driver's License Class B issued by the State of Texas is preferred but not required.
Must live within a thirty (30) minute travel time from workstation or be able to meet this requirement within six (6) months of employment.
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of City Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge of departmental and safety rules and regulations.
Knowledge of the proper operation of solid waste collection and disposal equipment.
