LOUISIANA STATE PENTENTIARY

  • Supervising and coordinating maintenance work at LSP which includes responsibility for approx. 3,424,522 square feet of maintained building space in 489 buildings.
  • Louisiana State Penitentiary (LSP) is the states only Class 1A facility and the only correctional facility providing custody and control of adult male inmates who have been sentenced to death.

Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience: Four years of experience in the building construction trades; maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment; building construction; building maintenance; or construction, maintenance, or repair of roads or bridges; OR Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trades; maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment; building construction; building maintenance; or construction, maintenance, or repair of roads or bridges; OR Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, engineering, or any combination of these courses plus two years of experience in the building construction trades; maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment; building construction; building maintenance; or construction, maintenance, or repair of roads or bridges.

  1. Supervises all maintenance and repairs of utilities, sewer systems, water lines and valves, electrical appliances, electrical wiring, plumbing, security fences, gas lines and hookups, refrigeration equipment and any other maintenance related operation in assigned area of responsibility.
  2. ELECTRICAL the repair and installation of receptacles, transformer banks, multi-breakers, electrical wiring, fans, dishwashing and cooking equipment, security lights, generators, power lines, guide wires, and any other electrical work.
  3. PLUMBING the installation of commercial appliances and plumbing fixtures, water and gas lines, adjustments of gas regulators, and related appliances and fixtures.
  4. CARPENTRY repairing roofs, hanging doors, installing floor tiles, sheetrock, constructing shelves, guardrails, small buildings, and the laying of concrete blocks and bricks.
  5. WELDING the maintenance and repair of water lines, calderas, gates, fences, gas lines (includes heavy equipment, and pressure boilers {with assistance of outside vendors}).
  6. MASONRY the laying of brick, terra cotta, ceramic and hollow tile, and other building blocks.
  7. REFRIGERATION the maintenance and repair of heating and air conditioning systems, refrigerators, several large walk-in coolers, icemakers and exhaust fans.
