About the Job:
The Carrier Development Manager, specializing in drayage, will focus on identifying, onboarding, and managing carrier partners to ensure reliable capacity, competitive pricing, and high service levels. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of the transportation market, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to drive performance through data and relationships
In This Role, You Will:
- Identify, recruit, and onboard new carrier partners to expand our network and enhance service capabilities.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with both asset-based and independent carriers to support volume growth, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate across divisional procurement and operations teams to align carrier capacity with current and forecasted demand.
- Evaluate carrier performance using KPIs (on-time performance, service failures, cost metrics) and implement corrective actions or improvements as needed.
- Manage carrier scorecards, ensuring compliance with safety, insurance, and service standards.
- Negotiate competitive rates and contract terms to drive margin improvement and service quality.
- Build a strategic carrier portfolio across regions, equipment types, and service offerings to support diversified freight needs.
- Provide guidance to the pricing department in establishing customer rates as it relates to the cost of equipment needs.
- Serve as a liaison between carriers and internal teams to resolve service disruptions or capacity issues.
- Partner with IT teams to automate carrier onboarding, rate updates, and performance tracking.
- All other duties and projects as assigned.

Desired:
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Business or related field is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role with a minimum of 5 years management experience required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Good attention to detail
- Highly motivated with ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Location:
This is a hybrid role based in Lombard, IL.
As required by applicable Pay Transparency laws, Odyssey provides a range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in locations under these requirements. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include a wide array of factors, including: your specific skills and experience, geographic location, or other relevant factors. The salary range for this position may be lower or higher in different markets.
The base pay range for this position is: $88,500 to $119,500 per year.
