Who are we looking for?

Our Waterloo office has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Site Supervisor in our Construction group .

As a Site Supervisor, you will be involved in rewarding work on construction projects including industrial process, power generation projects, water and wastewater treatment and environment remediation. The Site Supervisor will support the project team in the execution of all phases of project delivery.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Provide occasional assistance in proposals and business development.
  • Provide occasional assistance with the preparation of supporting documentation including bill of materials, databases, testing plans, schedules, and related contract documents.
  • Oversee and control day-to-day field operations.
  • Provide for site safety and security, devise and implement site policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular project inspections and maintenance of systems and equipment.
  • Supervise and manage staff, sub-contractors and trades.
  • Keep daily records and logs in accordance with Company and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in procurement phase including development of scopes of work, purchase orders, change orders.
  • Coordinate and liaise with clients, suppliers, sub-consultants, sub-contractors, inspectors and regulatory authorities.
  • Attend onsite meetings including preparation of agendas and meeting notes.
  • Inspect field work to ensure accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate and support of onsite logistics
  • Travel to remote project sites as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of closeout documentation and Operations and Maintenance Manuals

Responsibilities

  • External Communications: Help others get the most out of external communications systems by offering support and advice.
  • Construction Management: Supervise others on a construction project, working within established operational systems.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace; instruct the team in safe working methods; identify instances of risky behaviors within the team and take appropriate action, escalating serious issues as appropriate.
  • Work Scheduling and Allocation: Assign short-term work schedules to a team of subordinates in order to achieve expectations while following established timelines.
  • Leadership and Direction: Communicate the local action plan; explain how this relates to the function's strategy and action plan and to the broader organization's mission and vision; motivate people to achieve local business goals.
  • Performance Management: Respond to personal objectives and use performance management systems to improve personal performance; or monitor the performance of the team, allocate work and review completion, take appropriate corrective action to ensure timeliness and quality, and contribute to formal individual performance management and appraisal.
  • Organizational Capability Building: Provide coaching to team members to develop their skills.
  • Operational Compliance: Identify, within the team, instances of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and/or relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, reporting these instances and escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Quality Assurance: Plan and coordinate testing and inspection of products and processes. Implement corrective actions or continuous improvement initiatives and monitor them to make sure they are effective.

Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

  • A construction/civil, electrical or mechanical engineering degree/diploma and 3 to 10 years of construction Site Supervision background, or an equivalent combination of technical training and industry experience.
  • Experience with the interpretation of and adherence with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Act.
  • Experience involved in the construction or design of power generation/energy projects is considered an asset.
  • Self-motivated, with strong desire to learn and lead others.
  • Well organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to be a part of cross-functional teams with the ability to relate well and cooperate with other members of the team, to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals.
  • Computer literacy including Word, Excel, Outlook, and MS Project.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to project sites.
  • G class drivers license
