Job Description The Business Development Manager, Restructuring position will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of strategically focused business development related initiatives to secure new clients and strengthen existing relationships, consistent with the overall goals and strategies of both BFR and Weil. Primary Responsibilities and/or Essential functions Partner with Restructuring practice leadership, partners, and other attorneys to develop and execute business development plans for the practice, including assisting with any requests regarding business development efforts, such as: research and analysis, pitches, RFPs, seminars and the like; assist in developing content and determining the most effective approach for client presentations. Analyze financial statements, operational performance, and capital structures of target companies to identify signs of distress and potential restructuring opportunities for expanding client relationships among practice groups (including potential analysis of outside counsel). Monitor market events, macroeconomic trends including client's & competitor's market trends, and changes in policies to identify potential restructuring or liability management opportunities along with innovative business development techniques, enterprise strategies, and emerging distressed markets. Prepare regular reports related to new and existing business opportunities, restructuring strategies, and legal analysis. Assist with financial analysis in preparing pitch decks for potential clients. Support client meetings and events with research and data analysis. Review and analyze legal documents, including debt documents, restructuring agreements, and court filings. Initiate, support and assist with development, coordination and implementation of targeted business initiatives on multiple levels: multi-practice, single-practice and individual partners, the latter, importantly, including coaching. Advise on pitch processes, winning selling strategies, client service initiatives; execute post mortem reviews; manage client teams; and oversee and take accountability for preparation of presentation materials for business development targets. Provide quantitative analysis by reviewing financials of potential targets to identify strategies and opportunities for expanding client relationships among practice groups (including potential analysis of outside counsel) Develop cross-departmental opportunities with Business Development counterparts in the Litigation and Corporate Departments to repurpose information, identify prospects and manage sales support. Provide research, synthesis and presentation of information for high-level decision making, including industry sectors, geographic markets, and current and potential clients. Track activities of competitors to identify new, effective and innovative business development techniques and enterprise strategies. Strategically develop and leverage Weil's client base through researching, analyzing and developing/examining potential or current client issues and creative data-rich profiles. Ensure clear lines of communication and coordination of programs and projects both within the Business Development group and with partners and other attorneys. Leverage the skills of media, event planning, business graphics and data systems professionals within the Business Development Department for profile-raising, events sponsorships and other initiatives. Supervise project related activities for Business Development administrative staff, as well as outside vendors and consultants. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 7+ years of business development-related experience in a professional services setting, preferably a BFR bankruptcy, restructuring, etc. related organization, including pitches for new business initiatives, preferably in a law firm. Strong financial analysis, modeling, and valuation skills, with experience in assessing complex financial data and drawing actionable insights. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, strong research skills, and the ability to interpret and apply legal information. Familiarity with legal research tools and databases, as well as proficiency in financial software like CapIQ, Bloomberg, Reorg, and Debtwire. Previous legal or professional services administration experience a strong plus. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work with a service mentality. Excellent listening skills with strong follow-up skills. Strong attention to detail and strong project management skills. Ability to work collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision or direction. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) required. Ability to work with senior partners in business development opportunities. Drive and enthusiasm to work and complete assignments under tight scheduling deadlines in a team-oriented environment. Proven creativity, conceptual skills development and resourcefulness, as well as demonstrated experience affecting organizational initiatives and vision. Excellent consultative and consensus-building skills in working with partners and other attorneys. Organizational and political savvy in working within a large professional services organization. Ability to negotiate individual, group and firm-wide needs and interface successfully with multiple levels within Weil, particularly the Business Development team, partners and other attorneys and administrative staff. Education/Certifications: Bachelor's degree required. MBA or a JD a plus (not required). Estimated salary range is $160,000- $170,000. Compensation decisions within the range are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case including but not limited to the individual's skills, experience, and qualifications.
