System One is assisting a client in hiring a Project Engineer for their facility in North/Northeast Houston. This is a contract to hire position.

The Project Engineer plays a vital role in managing engineered systems such as compressed air solutions, dryers, and nitrogen packages from concept through delivery. This position acts as a technical liaison across engineering, production, procurement, and customer support, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with customer requirements.

Responsibilities include technical coordination, project documentation, risk management, validation, and support of manufacturing and installation processes.

Qualifications
  • Experience Minimum 1 years of experience in mechanical design or engineering project management.
  • Experience with rotating equipment such as compressors, pumps and/or generators.
  • Strong technical writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with ERP systems such as BPCS, SAP, or equivalent.
  • Ability to multitask and work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge
  • Good standing knowledge of the compressed air industry and design principles.
Education
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
Skills
  • Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and engineering design skills.
  • Exhibit good housekeeping skills in terms of electronic filing, calculations, recording design changes, updating excel spreadsheets and documenting designs.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a productive member of a team.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD, AutoDesk, Inventor, Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Some working knowledge of ERP system such as SAP or other similar is preferred.
  • Must also remain current with other relevant computing skills.
  • Must be a team player - open-minded and flexible, with the ability to generate creative solutions to problems and work in a fast-paced environment which requires multi-tasking capability.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate project scope and feasibility with cross-functional teams.
  • Lead and coordinate technical meetings with customers and contractors (e.g., kickoff, FAT).
  • Manage technical alignment with internal design teams.
  • Track and manage orders across ERP systems, ensuring timely delivery and accurate documentation.
  • Maintain and validate all customer-facing documents (drawings, datasheets, manuals, certificates).
  • Develop project documentation including Supplier Document Index (SDI), Inspection Test Plan (ITP), and production schedules.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Monitor project financials against budgeted expectations.
  • Provide technical support and training to internal teams and customer centers.
  • Organize and manage witness testing, customer inspections, and site visits.
  • Oversee projects from initiation to shipment, including installation and commissioning when required.
  • Create and modify P&ID drawings using AutoCAD; perform 3D design work in Inventor.
  • Interface with manufacturing teams to ensure alignment between design and production.
  • Support documentation and troubleshooting for post-sales service, assembly, and quality control.
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams on shared projects and validate peer work.
  • Promote and enforce adherence to safety policies
  • In conjunction with OSHA law and/or requirements, apply the safety training process when performing all work in order to reinforce practical safety training techniques, maintain awareness and prevent injury.
  • Follow the safety policy with the vision of zero work related accidents. Take all necessary actions to employ sustainable processes to safeguard the companys targets for Quality/Environment/Safety, Health and Energy/Resource Efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Some day and occasional overnight travel may be required. E.g. to other product companies, key suppliers or customers.
