Wheel-Tire-Jack-Ornament D&R Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of D&R engineers in the execution of vehicle programs on-time while completing all GPDS deliverables. These deliverables include, but are not limited to cost targets, supplier bid technical reviews, To4 alignment on sourcing decisions, Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA), design rule assessments, tooling checklists, DV test plans, DV testing & reporting, DVP&R completion & submission, final review & signoff with WTJO Core, on-time PPAP completion, and all vehicle builds (e.g., DCV, TT, PP, MP1, MP2).

The position is involved in Pre-Program Meetings (PPM) and leads discussing with their D&Rs in Program Execution meetings (PEX), Technical Design Reviews (TDR), and Program Milestone Reviews with Global WTJO Manager, WTJ Technical Experts & Subject Matter Experts (SME), Campaign Prevent Specialists (CPS), and other WTJO LL6 leadership. The position manages activities and communication with cross functional teams that include vehicle programs, integration, VE, attribute owners (e.g., VEME, NVH, Vehicle Dynamics), VEV, Studio, Marketing, Purchasing, Ford plants, New Models, and STA to name a few. The position requires travel as necessary to support vehicle launches, supplier plant assessments, GEMBA walks, CPS assessments, and problem investigation & resolution. The person will also facilitate the completion of these activities by the D&Rs on their team.

The position is also responsible for Product, Process, and People. The objectives of a WTJO D&R supervisor are well-defined. The objectives encompass Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Resiliency. Examples of specific objectives include TVM, Quality (e.g., R/1000, CPR, Warranty Spend, CPU), timeliness of problem resolution, and CCRG reporting to name a few.

The individual must be an excellent People Leader. This self-motivated individual must be able to inspire their team to execute programs and OPD activities with engineering discipline and excellence. The candidate must be able to provide candid feedback to his direct report to develop their skills and to ensure UnSE targets and objectives are met. The candidate must effectively work with WTJO leadership and Core team. It is important to build positive, collaborative relationships inside and outside of WTJO Engineering.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In this position

  • Leads, guides, supports and teaches D&R engineers.
  • Establishes an atmosphere of trust and empowerment to fully utilize the skills of the team.
  • Lead all HR related activities with team to assess performance and ensure growth and retention of team.
  • Fosters and maintains strong team relationship with North American WTJO team and Chassis leaders globally.
  • Fosters and maintains strong team relationship with all program and Vehicle Engineering teams that they work with.

What you'll do

  • Ensures delivery of design including, cost, quality, weight, functional targets / requirements delivered on time
  • Ensures team is exploring design space in its entirety for new fully competitive designs to assure all alternatives have been explored and to verify designs are fully optimized for QCWF targets
  • Ensures common / carry-over components are used whenever possible
  • Ensures compatibility between components / systems to mating and adjacent systems.
  • Ensures completeness of assembly illustration sheets
  • Ensures use of time to work on design, engineering analysis, innovation, and value chain
  • Reviews existing benchmarking data and obtains new data as required to assure best possible design
  • Reviews and approves running changes processed by PVT and updates program documents as required
  • Signs-off on relevant Supplier Request For Engineering Approval (SREA)
  • Interfaces with VO as partners to ensure design for assembly
  • Leads trade-off analysis
  • Resolves durability issues
  • Resolves TGW & quality issues post Job 1
QUALIFICATIONS

You'll have

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline. (ME or equivalent) required.
  • 5+ years of Wheels, Tires, Jacks and Ornaments experience
  • Excellent teaching and mentoring skills
  • Experienced with and able to work with the Design Studios Globally
  • Demonstrated experience in problem solving and issue resolution using 8D, 5D, AIMS and other Ford issue systems
  • Demonstrated, successful experience leading cross functional, supplier and global teams
  • High technical aptitude, willingness to learn and strong collaboration experience working with core engineering
  • Ability to identify, manage and quickly resolve urgent launch concerns
  • Strong skills in project planning and management - must have experience in managing large complex projects and multiple projects at the same time
  • Strong oral/written communication skills to lead group projects, issue resolution, and management reviews

  • Masters degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline required.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering disciplines for failure mode avoidance
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to communicate to upper management/program teams, passion for quality, passion for customer inherent self-starter with strong drive for results
  • Demonstrated proficiency in engineering disciplines: DVP&R, FMA, 5D, 8D, Process Controls, Reliability, and System Engineering Fundamentals
  • Knowledgeable in GPDS
  • Proficient in WERS, AIMS, FEDEBOM, BSAQ, GPIRS, DVA, VDLS, etc.
  • Able to travel and support final assembly plants, supplier sites and Dearborn Team meetings
