Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role as a Welder III at our Custom Hydraulics location in Kent, WA. The Welder III will be responsible to perform structural and pipe welding on U.S. Navy marine components in accordance with strict military standards. The ideal candidate will have experience working in shipyard environments or defense-related welding and be certified to the requirements of NAVSEA technical specifications. The position is based in a warehouse/production type environment. Candidate must be comfortable working in a warehouse environment, which may be cool in the winter and hot in the summer.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform manual and semi-automatic welding in accordance with NAVSEA and MIL-STD specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical drawings.
- Use Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG) processes.
- Weld ferrous and non-ferrous metals including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper-nickel, and others as specified.
- Conduct welds in all positions (flat, vertical, overhead, horizontal).
- Adhere to NAVSEA Technical Publication (T/P) 248 welding procedures and safety standards.
- Be able to certify and maintain welder workmanship certification per T/P - 248
- Participate in weld inspections and testing (VT, PT, MT, RT) with QA personnel.
- Maintain welding equipment and ensure proper calibration and cleanliness.
- Complete job documentation, logs, and reports as required.
Required Qualifications
- Active NAVSEA welding certification per NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 and MIL-STD-1689.
- Minimum of 3 years of marine or shipyard welding experience.
- Must pass weld tests administered by NAVSEA or a certified military QA representative.
- Must pass welder workmanship training.
- Must pass annual Visual acuity test.
- Knowledge of shipboard systems, structural steel, and piping.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance if required.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work at heights, and in confined spaces.
Preferred Skills
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Familiarity with SUBSAFE , Level I, and nuclear work scopes.
- Prior experience with Naval ship repair or new ship construction.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and NAVSEA drawings.
