Summary of the Purpose and Objective

The Forklift Operator is responsible for transporting, loading, and moving pallets, boxes, and other objects utilizing forklift in industrial setting. Forklift Operators also maintain warehouse/inventory, pre-stage ingredients, and perform other tasks as assigned.

The starting pay for this position is $21.35/hr. with a shift increase for second shift.

Hours: 3pm-11pm

Description of Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must successfully pass forklift assessment and driving test to obtain position
  • Must perform proper checks on forklift prior to operation and report any damage and/or safety concerns immediately to supervisor
  • Rotate packaging and ingredients using FIFO Inventory Method
  • Clean and inspect outbound trailers and report any damage and/or concerns to supervisor in timely manner
  • Inspect product and report any damaged product/material to supervisor in timely manner
  • Record temperature of cold products to confirm they are within specification; if not, must immediately notify supervisor
  • Accurately load trucks verifying product/orders
  • Complete all paperwork for position as required
  • Responsible for being aware of surroundings and safe spotting of yard driver prior to movement of trailers
  • Must comply with all forklift safety policies and standard operating procedures and ensure safe operation of forklift at all times
  • Assist warehouse, shipping, and receiving team members as requested
  • Responsible for keeping work areas clean and organized
  • Will perform other task as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required for the Position

  • Must be able to perform job qualification Checklist tasks within expected training period.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and adhere to all required safety, PPE, and standard operating procedures
  • Must be able to follow direction and stay on task with little to no supervision.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate to colleagues and management.
  • Must be able to safety operate scissor lift, forklift, hand jack, and/or other power industrial equipment, and hand held scanner.
  • Must be able to read and understand the Forklift SOPs, manuals, and related documentation as written.
  • Must have flexibility to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.
  • Must be able to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be willing and able to lift 35-50 lbs. on a frequent basis.
  • Team Member will flex wrists and hands
  • Team Member will walk, bend, stand, twist, push/pull
  • Team Member will climb in and out of forklift.
  • Team Member will stand or walk on concrete surfaces for extended periods of time
  • Team Member will move heavy objects (100 lbs.) with mechanical device

Training (Equipment & Methods)

  • Job specific training will be conducted by the designated Trainer(s), managers/supervisors, colleagues, and knowledge experts.
  • Required training may include, but is not limited to, lockout-tagout, scissor lift, fall protection, chemical training, ongoing quality, safety and departmental training.
  • Team members will be evaluated on job performance in accordance with the Training Program SOP.
  • SPC training conducted by designated trainer. Documentation and agenda kept by Quality Control.
  • Monthly training of a Safety topic and a GMP topic will be conducted by their immediate supervisor from information provided by the Safety Director and QA Manager.

Job Safety Analysis

  • Personal Protective Equipment: smock, hair net, ear plugs, slip resistant shoes and safety glasses, gloves, boots, aprons, and/or high visible vest/jacket, safety harnesses as required, and other PPE dependent upon position requirements.
  • Will be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, known allergens such as soy, wheat, and milk; moving parts/equipment/vehicles/mechanical parts/and powered industrial equipment, extreme weather conditions, various chemicals, loud noises, and will be occasionally exposed to high precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat and vibration.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud and requires hearing protection.
  • Will consistently be walking/standing on concrete floors and exposed to wet/slippery surfaces for long/extended periods of time.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have 3 months of operator or food manufacturing experience listed in work history or skills section; must have 6 months work history within the last 12 months to be considered.
