Substation Engineering Technician/Designer

Job Description

The Substation Engineering Technician operates as a lead engineering technician within the team. This role involves modifying or creating deliverables and performing assignments that require applying basic engineering principles and established design practices to develop complex design concepts. The technician provides technical guidance and may offer direction to other engineering professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and direction by utilizing knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes, and policies.
  • Review project requirements to accurately determine the correct format and contents of required deliverables.
  • Promote quality within the project/group/section and ensure design inputs are consistent.
  • Ensure deliverables comply with specific codes and standards suitable for the project.
  • Apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
  • Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records using advanced applications such as modeling and design software.
  • Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
  • Assist with identifying key client interests and communicate them to project team members.
  • Support performance management processes and mentor lesser experienced engineering technicians.
Essential Skills
  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
  • Bachelors degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years related work experience.
  • Proficient communication skills, learning on the fly, problem-solving, perseverance, patience, time management, drive for results, self-development, and customer focus.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to use electronic applications and programs required for performing assignments such as CADD, information modeling, and document storage systems.
  • Advanced experience with AutoDesk Inventor (SDS).
  • Advanced experience with physical substation design (AIS and/or GIS).
  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering calculations.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, and policies.
  • Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends.
  • Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles.
  • Basic knowledge of procurement and contract administration.
  • Basic knowledge of process, procedures for project controls, and estimating.
Work Environment

The position involves working with advanced software such as AutoCAD SDS & Inventor. The role requires the ability to handle technical assignments and provide guidance to other professionals in a collaborative team environment. The designer must reside within 50 miles of our client's office.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
