We are seeking an experienced Fine Woodworker to join our team in our Missoula Millwork shop.

Role Summary

This position involves crafting architectural millwork and other high-end finished wood products using traditional and modern woodworking techniques. The ideal candidate has a strong eye for detail, a deep understanding of wood properties, and the ability to work from detailed plans or conceptual designs to produce precision crafted pieces. Commitment to quality, craftmanship, and safety is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Always prioritize and reinforce safe work practices. Commit to safety as a core value in daily operations and all aspects of work.
Ability to read and interpret shop drawings.
Operate shop equipment to mill materials and fabricate products as specified in shop drawings.
Capable of working independently or as part of a team, as the project requires.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace to facilitate a safe and functional work environment.
Sanding millwork, cabinets, and other materials to finish specifications.
Assist with packaging and loading of finished products for delivery to projects.
Maintain tools and equipment in good working order and promptly report any issues for repair or replacement.

Background and Competencies

Skilled in the operation of tools such as jointers, planers, overhead sanders, panel saws, table saws, shapers, routers, miter saws, band saws, drill presses, and other equipment directly related to woodworking including hand tools such as chisels, files, scrapers, etc.

Be skilled with a variety of measuring tools for taking precision measurements to make accurate cuts and build products to specification. Tape measure, calipers, squares, and protractors are several examples of such measuring tools.

Proven ability to interpret shop drawings and generate accurate material takeoffs to support the milling and fabrication of components required to bring the design to life and complete the product.

Be familiar with the characteristics of wood and how to work with it. Be able to judge how cuts will need to be performed to minimize blowout and other flaws created by the process. Be familiar with sanding and fine detailing the pieces we are producing.

Understand and have experience with a variety of different fasteners such as screws, pins, dowels, biscuits, dominos, and mortise and tenon joints.

Experience with veneer and knowledge of how-to match and lay-up veneers as specified by the project would be a plus but not necessarily required.

Competency using clamps of various types to successfully accomplish the large variety of different glue-up situations one will encounter in a woodworking facility.

Working Conditions

Much of our work is performed in a heated shop facility or in our warehouse. Occasional site visits may be necessary to potentially aid in installation, but this is uncommon as we often have install crews in the field.
Performing activities including climbing ladders, lifting, pushing, pulling, & handling materials, walking & balancing, stooping. Standing for long periods at a time.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation - $33 - $38 DOE
