Reporting directly to the Service Supervisor, the Journeyman Electrician/Heavy Duty Mechanic will be responsible for troubleshooting and overseeing repairs on a variety of Caterpillar equipment in the shop and occasional field environments, with a focus on gas compression, heavy electrical and power generation equipment including gen-sets, electronic controls, PLCs, HMIs and switchgears.

The successful candidate will be on a 7x7 shift based at our Calgary Power Systems facility.

• Service, trouble shooting gas compression equipment
• Troubleshooting and repairing Caterpillar, as well as other brand generators and mechanical equipment
• Installation and testing of electrical equipment i.e. heaters, PLC, controllers
• New Equipment Prep Gensets, Industrial engines diesel and gas - pre-delivery inspections, install accessories and testing where possible
• Perform a wide variety of equipment repair diagnostics
• Setting up load testing, calculating load capacity and safety requirements for working with load banks and live testin.
• Pre-delivery inspections and overhaul engine work
• Assist in fulfilling our customer service commitment
• Trouble shooting Caterpillar equipment and perform equipment repairs
• Interface with customers, products and sales support
• Working with the Supervisor on various tasks
• Maintain Finning Customer Service Commitment
• Various related duties as required
• Working to maintain 3 Star Contamination Control

Qualifications:

• Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic Red Seal certification
• Journeyperson Electrician Red Seal Certificatio.
• Five years experience as an Electrical OR HET Journeyman
• Self starter Self reliant and highly organized
• Team player capable of working with minimal supervision.
• Previous Power Generation experience
• Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organization, and communication skills and a commitment to safety
• Capacity to handle pressure and switch between tasks and trades throughout the day
• Highly motivated and mechanically / electrically inclined

Assets:

• Understanding of the Caterpillar product line and other brand generators and engines
• Switch gear, engine/generator controls, HMI and PLC experience.
• Previous knowledge or understanding of calculating load capacity and safety requirements for working with load banks and live testing
• Previous experience with generator commissioning, other brand transfer switches
• Previous experience with mechanically governed engine knowledge or experience
• Cat ET, CAT Inspect, SIMSi and SIS experience
• Natural gas and Diesel Generator Maintenance and repair experience in field or shop setting
• Engine overhaul experience
