Job Description
Hoffman Structures Inc. is seeking a Quality Control Field Engineer to join our team. This individual will be an integral, onsite member of the Quality Department, supporting the full lifecycle of a hyper-scale data center construction project. The QC Field Engineer will play a vital role in championing on-site quality efforts, supporting our affiliates, and collaborating with a broad range of project stakeholders.
As a front-line technical resource, you will work closely with design professionals, clients, trade contractors, and craftspeople to address complex coordination challenges. Your ability to identify, prevent, and resolve issues in the field is essential to ensuring the quality and success of this mission-critical project.
Reporting to the VP of Operations, the QC Field Engineer will coordinate with site leadership and cross-functional teams to manage day-to-day construction activities, oversee construction models and related documentation, and drive compliance across structural, CSA, and MEP scopes.
This is a fully onsite position based near Amarillo, TX, with active involvement in supporting our affiliates and project partners throughout the build. Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to the following:
- Review specifications and understand all requirements (tolerances, finishes, cold and hot weather, mass concrete, mix designs, concrete accessories, etc.)
- Submit QA/QC plan
- Develop quality control work plans for all work activities
- Attend safety meetings, morning stretch and flex and daily white boards. This position will also coordinate with the Safety Manager to maintain safety standards and procedures on all projects.
- Schedule inspection walks with the third party inspector, city, and Hoffman
- Support field operations by reviewing contract drawings for accuracy, completeness, and identifying constructability issues. These will be used for construction so drawings must be error free. Interface with BIM detailers by identifying and resolving issues in the building model
- Identify issues with contract drawings and collaborate with other team members, client, architect, subcontractors, structural engineers, etc. Communication via email, RFI process, phone and team meetings.
- Interface with field crews and provide technical advising for issues or questions that may arise.
- Perform quality control and safety walks and identify issues that are present in the field. Work with field crews on identifying these issues and working through any necessary corrections that need to be done. Walk prior to all pours and document with photos.
- Complete all inspection checklists and closeout in procore.
- Manage all CORs to closure
- Ensure trade compliance with approved QA/QC plans and installation standards.
- Collaborate with project QA/QC teams to attend and contribute to quality meetings.
- Communicate daily with trades, project team members, and stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Provide recommendations for corrective actions as necessary.
- Respond to field inquiries and resolve issues in real-time.
- Must be able to multitask and work efficiently in a high-paced environment.
- Facilitate safe and productive working conditions on-site.
- Provide detailed updates to leadership and project management on field activities.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure project goals are achieved on time and within scope.
- Provide clear communication, verbally, written, and electronically.
- Collaborate closely with clients, architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors.
Qualifications
We are looking for a flexible, detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines. The successful candidate will possess:
Professional Experience and Education
- Minimum 2 years of construction QA/QC experience in one or more of the following areas: electrical, mechanical, utilities, civil, architectural, structural, or commissioning.
- Proven experience managing scopes involving structural steel, large-scale MEP systems, generator yards, duct banks, and utility systems.
- OSHA 30 Certification required.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Bachelors degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or related fieldor equivalent craft-level experience.
Position Related Skills
- Strong commitment to safety and knowledge of OSHA and site-specific compliance.
- Must be able to multitask and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work effectively with owners, tradespeople, trade contractors, and internal team members.
- Skilled at managing multiple concurrent activities and handling interruptions professionally.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Office 365, MS Teams).
- Working knowledge of Field Management Software such as BIM360 Field, Procore, and Latista.
- Familiarity with project scheduling and management tools.
Valued Experience (Preferred but Not Required):
- Structural engineering, erection, or inspection experience.
- Concrete pre-installation, installation, or inspection experience.
- Site and architectural installation and/or inspection experience.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Standing/Walking/Sitting: Workday is a combination of being stationary and moving about the work location.
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
- Must be able to climb stairs, to ascend and descend ladders, scaffold, inspect confined or underground spaces.
- Hands/Arms: Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. Frequently operates machinery and will use hand/fingers and legs to operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, and position materials.
- Sigh: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus in an outdoor environment. Must be able to safely operate a vehicle with a valid drivers license. The work is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, reading print and digital documents.
- Hearing: Must be able to work in proximity to loud equipment more than 75% of the time. Must be able to wear hearing protection, as necessary. Often required to communicate with customers and co-workers in an office setting and on the job site.
- Speech: Ability to communicate laws, ordinances, plans, regulations, protocols, directives, and standard operating procedures related to project scope in English.
- Lift/Carry: Must have the ability to lift or manipulate fifty pounds to a height of three feet and carry or push it 50-100 feet.
- Bending/Twisting: Frequent.
- Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: Must be able to regularly position self in a kneeling, crouching or crawling position for purpose of examining project work.
- Must be able to physically access all areas and levels of construction site for work progress review.
- Work schedule must be flexible to allow for extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.
- Must use independent judgment, organizational and critical thinking skills to determine best method to accomplish desired results.
