Job Description

AECOM is looking for a Mechanical Engineer Hydroelectric Turbines with strong experience in the design, selection, and integration of heavy rotating equipment specifically hydraulic turbines and large-capacity pumps for hydroelectric and pumped storage projects. This position focuses on the performance, reliability, and operability of mechanical systems in high-energy environments.

The main responsibilities of this position include, among others:

  • Providing engineering services and advice regarding the design, manufacturing, and installation of turbine and generator components for new plant construction or refurbishment of units;
  • Conducting feasibility studies and preliminary projects for new units and modernization of units, including technical audits at plants, client needs analysis, and report writing;
  • Preparing technical specifications for procurement or refurbishment of units;
  • Verifying compliance with contractual technical requirements of documentation produced by suppliers, such as drawings, calculation notes, manufacturing procedures, purchase specifications, assembly procedures, etc.;
  • Monitoring workshop manufacturing and on-site assembly of units, including reviewing non-conformance reports and technical modification requests;
  • Selecting, optimizing, and hydraulically sizing turbines based on curves and tests on reference hydraulic models, and witnessing tests on models or prototypes;
  • Coordinating mechanical interfaces of turbine-generator units with civil, mechanical, and electrical works of power plants;
  • Carrying out engineering projects for instrumentation modernization of units, refurbishment engineering of major unit parts, and analysis of power uprating for units;
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 6+ years of experience in the design, manufacturing, and assembly of turbine-generator units
  • Member of the Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec (OIQ)
  • Proficiency in French (spoken and written)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in the design, manufacturing, and assembly of turbine-generator units
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written); occasional assignments outside of Quebec
  • Dynamic, self-motivated, with initiative and strong team spirit
  • Thorough, organized, and efficient
  • Willing to travel occasionally
