What You Will Do:
Tool Engineering is a career field that specializes in designing custom mechanical solutions to support manufacturing, assembly, inspection and test throughout the product lifecycle. Tooling Engineers are the subject matter experts who design fixturing and workholding solutions, gages, assembly and test jigs, material handling devices, shipping containers, and shop aids. The use of these items provides a consistent, safe, ergonomic means to manufacture, assemble, inspect, handle, and transport production hardware.
This position supports activities with the Opto-Mechanical Tool Engineering Team related to the manufacturing of precision optical mirrors, lenses, housings and assemblies with the Raytheon Optics Consolidated Manufacturing Center (OCMC) factory in Richardson, TX.
As a Sr. Tooling Engineer you'll use computer aided design to generate 3-dimensional models and technical drawing packages. You'll be responsible for all aspects of design, documentation, procurement, and assembly of tooling for use in a highly complex environment. In addition, you'll oversee projects from development to implementation and strive to incorporate safe, ergonomic, error-proofed, and innovative solutions into the factory.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Capturing & communicating tooling concepts with manufacturing & factory teams.
- Creating and implementing opportunities for improvement within our factories.
- Being a mechanical engineering resource to support factory improvement initiatives.
- Reading and interpreting mechanical engineering drawings including the usage of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Integrating Commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components to increase design usability and cost effectiveness.
- Adjusting and optimizing designs as necessary to meet stakeholder needs.
This job is posted as ONSITE and is located at Raytheon's Optics CMC at the Richardson, TX facility.
Qualifications you Must Have:
- Bachelor's Degree in Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and minimum 5 years of related experience. An advanced degree may account for additional years of experience as required for this position
- Experience with CREO or other 3D CAD tools
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, Aerospace Engineering
- Previous tool design experience
- Machine shop experience
- Leadership experience
- Experience with optics
- Experience with additive manufacturing
Working Environments:
This position involves direct support of manufacturing activities and requires spending significant amounts of time in and around factory areas.

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
