Performs routine repairs and maintenance on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems including air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital controls, hot and chilled water distribution, and variable volume systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive maintenance, adjustments, and basic repairs on both pneumatically controlled and digitally controlled HVAC systems.
  • Performs seasonal overhauls and transitions of systems to and from heating/cooling.
  • Participates in major component replacement and evaluation of complex system problems under the leadership of higher level technicians.
  • Performs building system repairs in coordination with operators of the centralized Energy Management and Control System.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of HVAC installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of basic HVAC systems troubleshooting, maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability to repair building systems that are controlled by a central Energy Management Control System (EMCS).
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair procedures for digitally controlled HVAC systems featuring programmable logic controls.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Possession of a current New Mexico State HVAC related license.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four years actual work experience and training which may include equivalent of apprenticeship or completion of vocational training, in the trade.
  • Ability to read blueprints, plans, drawings, and plumbing diagrams.
  • Skill in maintenance and use of tools, equipment and materials of applicable trade.
  • Ability on a daily basis to:
  • Grasp, lift, maneuver, rotate, and otherwise use small to large trades tools and equipment.
  • Grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy objects (50-80 lbs.).
  • Grasp, turn, twist, pull, push, lift, and otherwise move equipment, controls, parts, etc.
  • Visually assess maintenance, construction and repair needs.
  • Climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
