Light Equipment Operator

LIGHT EQUIPMENT OPERATOR CARLSBAD, NM STARTING PAY: $21.00 - $23.18 PER HOUR DOE BRIEF DESCRIPTION: This position works in a crew environment to assist the Road Department with the maintenance of County roads utilizing a variety of equipment and meets all of the requirements for Truck Driver/Laborer. The Light Equipment Operator possesses knowledge of: sub-base compaction, base construction and surface construction of un-surfaced, surfaced and chip sealed roads. Is proficient in the use of compaction equipment to reach desired compaction levels. Has the ability to dig, grade and place drainage structures in right-of-way entrances or under roads to prevent or relieve flooding and washouts, and the ability to place cattle guards and footers as directed. Performs daily maintenance check lists of equipment including DOT walk-around, pre-trip and operation inspections. Employees must be able to work independently. Employee may be required to work irregular hours, attend job related meetings and perform other related duties as required and assigned. The Road Manager Carlsbad, Road Manager Artesia, and Sandpoint Manager all have equal authority to direct your work schedule at any time. REQUIREMENTS: Education- High School Diploma or GED certificate required. Experience- Must have One (1) year as Class A CDL driving experience. One (1) year experience on all equipment as listed below. Roll-off container experienced preferred. Background- Must successfully pass criminal ad employment background investigations. Eligibility to work in the U.S. verified thru E-Verify. Pre Employment Testing- All job offers are contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment physical and drug screen. License- Must have, or ability to obtain, a current valid NM Class A Commercial Driver s License and be insurable by the County Insurance Authority. Must be part of the FMCSA Clearinghouse or be willingly to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. MUST PROVIDE A CURRENT DRIVING RECORD. Communication- Ability to understand, communicate and write in English.
