Responsible for managing large and / or complex clinical enterprise design and construction projects, or specialized, critical components of these projects. Exercises independent judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
The goal of the Architecture and Planning Unit is to create an environment which is operationally reliable and efficient, comfortable for patients and their family and functionally smart and clean. The Associate Architect will work closely with the Director of Architecture & Planning and the Director of Project Delivery to develop designs that will reflect these ideals. They will assist in the selection of consultants and coordinate their work; develop equipment/furniture information; review the documents with user groups, facility engineers and other technical staff of the Medical Center and review the project documents with appropriate enforcing agencies and obtain necessary approvals. They will also gather code information to develop alternative strategies to meet requirements, assist with the Bidding process, coordinate Construction Administration and complete closeout documentation. The Associate Architect will develop and maintain interior design standards for all projects Other tasks include assisting with Master Planning and participating in various committees on accessibility, BIM and LEED.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $165,000/yr. - $195,000/yr. (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Seven+ years of experience working in the design and construction industry, including 4 years in Healthcare architecture.
- Advanced knowledge of federal, state and local laws, and regulations governing planning, building design and construction, including but not limited to, JCAHO, OSHPD, NFPA and CDPH requirements.
- Advanced understanding and knowledge of architectural and construction industry theory and practice.
- Advanced project management skills to effectively manage highly complex, multiphase projects or specialized critical project components within an occupied academic medical center.
- Advanced financial skills to prepare, monitor and manage detailed project budgets, evaluate cost estimates, and review payment requests.
- Advanced skill in advising and consulting with senior leaders, interdisciplinary stakeholders, design professionals and construction contractors.
- Advanced skill managing contractors ensuring compliance with work scope and budget.
- Advanced skill in building, maintaining and nurturing strong professional relationships.
- Advanced Microsoft Office and project manager software skills. Working knowledge of CAD drawing programs and architectural design application programs. (REVIT, AutoCAD, Navisworks, BIM 360 Glue, Bluebeam)
- Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including highly effective negotiation skills and highly developed political acumen.
- Demonstrate record as a team player who can enhance existing cooperative work environment.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and problem recognition / avoidance / resolution skills and ability to take the initiative and develop simpler and more effective solutions to complex challenges. Ability to learn quickly and be flexible to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Proven ability to work independently in a high pressure, multi-tasking environment to meet responsibilities efficiently.
- Construction or project management certification from a relevant organization preferred.
