Apprentice Welder (2nd/3rd Year)

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious 2nd or 3rd year Apprentice Welder to join our maintenance team. This role is ideal for someone currently enrolled or willing to enroll in a welding apprenticeship program and looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced industrial environment. The Apprentice Welder will assist in performing a variety of welding and metal fabrication tasks in accordance with safety standards, quality requirements, and production schedules. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and must adhere to all safety requirements and protocols associated with working in a hazardous environment.

This is a unionized position under the IAMAW, Lodge 692, and the successful candidate will be required to join the union and be subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

When you join us, you will be:

  • Assist in welding, cutting, and fabricating metal components according to drawings and specifications.

  • Work under the supervision of journeyperson welders and supervisors to gain practical experience.

  • Performing welding repairs and welding inspections on all company equipment

  • Operate welding equipment and tools, including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding processes, safely and effectively.

  • Perform basic layout and fitting tasks.

  • Completing work orders

  • Clean and prepare metal surfaces prior to welding.

  • Inspect finished welds to ensure they meet quality standards.

  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and hazard communication procedures.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools, equipment, and work areas.

  • Participate in training sessions and actively develop welding knowledge and skills.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Must be a registered 2nd or 3rd year Apprentice Welder

  • Basic understanding of welding principles and metal fabrication

  • The ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and technical drawings is an asset

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety

  • Qualified applicants will have good interpersonal and problem-solving skills and will be able to work with other trades and operators

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds on a routine basis

  • Must be able to walk and/or stand 50-75% of the shift

  • A team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Hours/ Days / Schedule:

The hours of work will be primarily Wednesday through Saturday (40 hours, day shift).
