The primary responsibility of this position is to operate heavy equipment and trucks for the maintenance, repair, and construction of roads and facilities within the Weiser State Forest, as directed by the Forest Assistant Manager and overseen by the Forest Maintenance Supervisor. The employee will be tasked with operating a variety of vehicles, including backhoes, bulldozers, crawler loaders, road graders, rollers, farm tractors, and heavy trucks weighing over 26,001 pounds, as well as combinations exceeding 10,001 pounds, among other machinery as required. In addition to operating these vehicles, the employee is responsible for performing essential maintenance tasks on the District's heavy equipment, which includes daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inspections and repairs. Furthermore, the role encompasses the upkeep, repair, and construction of State Forest roads and facilities, ensuring that all equipment and infrastructure within the Weiser State Forest are maintained to the highest standards.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hour/week.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Occasional overtime and travel.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ; or
  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more ; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Condition of Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the tanker endorsement requirement and the air brake restriction removed. Hazmat endorsement requirement is also desirable.
